Why Liberal States Won Americas Tax Experiment

According to conservative doctrine, Kansas and Texas ought to be booming, and California ought to be in the pits.

For years, conservatives have been telling us that a healthy business-friendly economy depends on low taxes, few regulations, and low wages. Are they right?

We’ve had an experiment going on here in the United States that provides an answer.

At the one end of the scale are Kansas and Texas, with among the nation’s lowest taxes, least regulations, and lowest wages.

At the other end is California, featuring among the nation’s highest taxes, especially on the wealthy; lots of regulations, particularly when it comes to the environment; and high wages.

So according to conservative doctrine, Kansas and Texas ought to be booming, and California ought to be in the pits.

Actually, it’s just the opposite. For years now, Kansas’s rate of economic growth has been the worst in the nation. Last year its economy actually shrank. Texas hasn’t been doing all that much better. Its rate of job growth has been below the national average. Retail sales are way down. The value of Texas exports has been dropping.

We have known Supply Side Economics (trickle down) has been

a failure for decades.

If the Democratic party knew how to fight they would mention

this in every interview, press conference, debate, lecture, etc.

If the Democratic party knew how to fight, they would have all the data

at their fingertips, every time they appeared with a Republican on TV, radio,

livesteams, Facebook, Twitter, etc.

If the media cared anything about the people in this country they would

have ridiculed Republicans, laughed in their faces, called them liars, and pulled

out the charts, grafts, data, and facts.

I don't know how many times I have seen Republicans lie and the Democratic

politician or pundit get rolled over because they weren't prepared.

It is truly sickening what is happening in this country.

The Republicans hold power when they are in the minority.

The Republicans hold power when they are in the majority.

The Republicans now have COMPLETE CONTROL.

A president has not been elected.

A Dictator has been elected and the majority of Republicans

are celebrating the demise of this country.

I fear it is too late.

Trump will destroy this country.

This was the last recovery this country will see.

Women and children will bare the brunt of it all.

They will have their reproductive rights taken away, wages

will be lower, rape will rarely be prosecuted, and they will

lose their male family members in WW lll.

and, we've been struggling for years. That said, when big corporations leave the state (GE and Pfizer), they've moved to Boston, in another high tax/high cost state. (Personally, I think it's because our state legislature & governor are so cowardly that they half ass all their efforts to reform the state instead of trying for real solutions.)

Texas has definitely diversified beyond the oil industry over the past 20 years, but the state still struggles when oil prices are down for an extended period, like they have been over the past few years.

they are the 'family values' party supposedly but they don't give a flying fuck about anybody but themselves. trump is truly one of them, isn't he? they don't care if you're rich or poor, just be 'on your own' because they don't care. Period, end of story.

Since they'll say it was because of Reagan and Schwarzenegger.

They always bring up so-called Democratic-controlled cities like Detroit and Baltimore. So we should bring up Democratic controlled cities like Seattle, Portland, Pittsburgh, Minneapolis, Denver, and other economically booming cities who are supposedly being strangled to death by socialism.

it made huge headlines all around the world. A lot of people outside the West Coast still think California is in bad shape financially, but Brown has turned it around.

So, I doubt they'll be able to credit Arnold with turning it around.

we shuttled between Colorado and the Gatesofhell, aka Kermit, Texas, to care for my dying father in law. I know and see plenty of poverty in rural Colorado, but nothing like southwest Texas.
Regulation and zoning? Hah, what a joke. The old man owned a home in a nice development with a highway about 100 yards behind the last row of homes, one was his. With the oil boom, the vacant land next to the highway was developed into a large truck stop, with only half the parking lot paved. Trucks parked just on the other side of the alley idling 24/7 with the dust flying. Every kid on that block developed asthma, and the adults were always sick. A few people blamed the truck stop, but most just hunkered down and kept praying to Jesus to heal everything.

Plus, most people in the red states, you know, the ones that receive the most $$ from the Federal Government, believe the exact opposite. They hate NY and Cali, not realizing that without the tax dollars from those states, they'd be even worse off than they are now.

It's not a fact much mentioned in business or economic schools either.

Who knows, perhaps by the end of Trump administration just mentioning this fact may be illegal.,

right wingers have condescendingly informed me that lower taxes mean the economy will expand and that revenues will therefore be higher and the government will have more money.
