Is he running a little scared now?
Fearful of being part of a cover-up?
What do you think?

(419 posts)demanding his resignation, my email included. Many other Senators/Reps would have received the same, demanding that McConnell resign/be investigated.
Now he's trying to control the message.

The fact that he's saying this is pretty much proof that there is very damning evidence coming out soon and he knows it. He's now desperately trying to be on the right side of history is what I'm seeing here.

(419 posts)I want him out of the Senate. I'm going to keep reminding anyone who will listen. McConnell must leave.

(90,762 posts)I am off the charts specualting, of course.
But many of Trump's cabinet picks do look like Ryan's wet dream.
Or maybe they'll name Cruz. Cruz was Mercer's first pick, and both Conway and Bannon pushed Cruz in the beginning.
And both Conway and Bannon are buddies with Mercer.
It's an onion, many layers. Complete with tears.

(37,428 posts)And we know that such investigations won't begin before Inauguration Day. All of McConnell's filthiest capitalism dreams are about to come true. What does he care about boring hearings that no one will even watch?
Hell, any wrongdoing will be Obama's fault.

(111,082 posts)Since he prevented Obama from making the annoncement before the election, lest he look like nothing more than an angry partisan. Obama wanted a bi-partisan announcement. Mitch refused.
Now? I think he read his caucus and saw the writing on the wall? He was holding a losing hand.

(17,193 posts)The GOP need to preserve their fine coup so the 115th Congress can destroy America. The ideal thing would be for the Electoral College to confirm Mr Trump, and then for him to be impeached as soon as he takes office, leaving President Pence securely in charge of a grateful nation. So he needs to find a way to discredit Mr Trump without destroying the legitimacy of the rest of the election. Since no "investigation" is going to take place before the EC decides who our next President will be, he can prop up the party's legitimacy by throwing his support behind the "bi-partisan effort."
The tricky part will be distancing from Mr Trump while retaining control of the WH, because he can't face another eight years with a veto machine in charge. He's not getting any younger, after all. I think the first reaction was the panicky one, and now he is laying groundwork for salvaging the situation.

(19,976 posts)An "internal" investigation would head off an "independent bipartisan" investigation and placate some who are demanding an investigation. Having control of an "internal" investigation might also allow him and his cronies to BURY anything really damaging.
