Double message from Trump by toying Romney?

I called Trump's teasing of the Secretary of State position in front of Mitt Romney an act of revenge the moment the story broke. Knowing Trump, I figured the only reason he'd work Romney up for the possibility was to ultimately deny him the job, thus humiliating Romney in his own mind. And that's entirely consistent with everything we know about Donald Trump--he's a petty, short minded little man who deals in the art of the humiliation. Romney spoke out against him during the campaign, and he needed his revenge against him. Making him grovel for a job he'd never get would serve that purpose quite well.

However, I have to wonder if there's a second reason that Trump choose to humiliate Romney. If you remember in 2012, probably the only thing I'd commend Mitt for and admit my own shortsightedness is that he did point out the looming danger of Putin and Russia. And we all had a good laugh at that, but now it looks like we shouldn't have.

But knowing that Trump is well likely being run by the Russians, perhaps Trump wasn't just trying to humiliate Mitt for his own sake, but also for the sake of the Russians as well? I think it's a distinct possibility.

He's like someone dangling a feather in front of a kitten. Making the kitten jump and then pulling it away. He want this to be humiliating for old Mitt. If Mitt wasn't so hungry to be someone important he should have said "thanks but no thanks " when he first met with the jerk.
