is trashing any semblance of stability that may have motivated his deplorables to vote for him. With all that has been revealed in just one day, today, I see a serious movement to put our great country on a positive track.

(27,813 posts)Trump is deliberately self-destructing, because he doesn't want the job. Never has.
His behaviour throughout the campaign screamed "DON'T vote for me!" And his cabinet picks have screamed "I TOLD you not to vote for me!"
Since his "win", he has backtracked on all kinds of campaign promises - again, "I told you NOT to vote for me - I can't be trusted to do anything I said I'd do!"
The man wants out - it's now up to the GOP to figure out an acceptable exit strategy that will allow him to step down in a way that doesn't damage his ego.

(27,813 posts)If you REALLY want to win a presidential election, you DON'T continually insult every demographic you need to win: AAs, women, latinos, etc.
You DON'T make fun of a disabled man when you KNOW the cameras are running.
You DON'T attack a Gold Star family who lost a son.
You DON'T call your opponent a "nasty woman" in a debate, and then stalk her on-stage like you're some kind of predator - especially after your "grab 'em by the pussy" tape has been released.
Trump did everything imaginable to say "DON'T vote for me!" - little knowing that a bunch of ill-informed shitheads actually would anyway.
"Presidentin' is hard work," as someone once said. The LAST thing someone like Trump is interested in is hard work, responsibilities, having your every word and action scrutinized and criticized, having every minute of your day dictated by "you HAVE to be here" and "you NEED to be there".
The pics of Trump on election night, as his EC votes started piling up, said it all. He looked like he'd been punched in the gut. He NEVER wanted to win - he just wanted the publicity that being an "also ran" would have contributed to his "image".
Had he won the popular vote but not the EC, he would have been ecstatic. "The people wanted me, but a technicality prevented me from being president" would have suited him just fine.

(42,302 posts)I tend to agree that he never wanted this and wants a way out. But I have no idea how it might work.
This is, at least, an interesting intellectual exercise.

(27,813 posts)Probably something along the lines of his vast business empire, the "legacy" he wants secured for his family, being potentially diminished by his duties and responsibilities as POTUS.
Being profferred as a man "who put family first" would be a good out - something his fans could swallow as being a heroic act. "He gave up the crown for the family he loved" would be a good exit strategy. It also allows the Republicans to save face as a party: We had no choice but to accept that our candidate's insistence that his family's well-being is more important than his political ambitions, yadda yadda.
