51. The Russian People Versus The Russian Government
Tue Dec 13, 2016, 01:04 AM
Dec 2016

I have seen some confusion over this even amongst more Liberal news figures, and I think that this is an important point to make- The Russian People are not our enemies, and they never were. It was the Communist Government that oppressed the Russian People and which was our enemy during the Cold War. The Russian People themselves were oppressed by the Communist System. Once that System was overthrown, it was hoped that the Russian People would get the only legitimate form of Government, which is a Constitutional Democracy.

Instead, what happened is that Russia was taken over by Oligarchs who are now under control of the Authoritarian Strong Man, Vladimir Putin. I point this out again because the Russian People deserve a Democracy, just like every other People and every other Nation. I have known a number of Russian People through my University, and they are all good people who desire a real Democracy in their own Homeland, and instead have Putin and his Cronies. So, our mutual enemy is Putin and his Thugs. Our allies there are all the Russian People who thirst for real democracy. The Russian People must be held separate from the Authoritarian Government that oppresses them and thus prevents real Freedom in that Country.

So, in sum, the Authoritarian Russian Government is our enemy, but the Russian People are not. The Russian People themselves suffer under Putin's Regime. That is why Trump likes Putin so much. It is because they are so alike. Both are narcissists see themselves as Authoritarian Strong Men with contempt for Democracy and real Freedom. It is important to make this distinction, because we should be working to help make Russia a Democracy by fighting Putin's Regime. We also must fight the anti-democratic Trump Regime at home as well. Russians who oppose Putin are natural allies to anyone who loves real freedom, and we should not write off an entire Nation that is suffering under the Putin Regime. So, Trump likes Putin, but I am sure he is dismissive of the Russian People who desire real democracy.
