President Obama in an interview late Monday stressed the importance of daily intelligence briefings after President-elect Donald Trump pushed back against criticism that he receives the briefings only once a week.
"It doesn't matter how smart you are," Obama said on "The Daily Show" with Trevor Noah. "You have to have the best information possible to make the best decisions possible."
Obama acknowledged the country's intelligence agencies are "not perfect."
"But they are full of extraordinarily hardworking, patriotic and knowledgeable experts," he said.
"And if you're not getting their perspective, their detailed perspective, then you are flying blind."
A report published last week said the president-elect averages only one presidential intelligence briefing a week a number far lower than his predecessors.
In an interview that aired Sunday, Trump pushed back against criticism, saying on "Fox News Sunday" that, "I get it when I need it."
"First of all, these are very good people that are giving me the briefings. And I say, 'If something should change from this point, immediately call me. I'm available on one-minute's notice.'"
During the interview, the president-elect also suggested it isn't necessary for him to receive the briefings daily.
"I'm, like, a smart person," Trump said.
"I don't have to be told the same thing in the same words every single day for the next eight years. Could be eight years but eight years. I don't need that."

Between Comrade Trump and Carly Fiorina as Director of National Intelligence (where I'm sure she'd bring the same aptitude for management she demonstrated at HP), I can only conclude:
We're screwed.

I never got her....everyone said how smart she was, but her public statements did not bear that out.
and she had so much tension in her voice it made ME nervous.

(44,996 posts)Not because he actually knows better or that he's smart at all.
He's a paranoid little freak who falls for conspiracy crap because
it all fits into his narrow belief system... and more importantly,
because insecure Donald feels he can control the source.
I'm sure the awesome intelligence of our intelligence teams is
very intimidating to The Donald. What a small small person.

(60,010 posts)There is a movie, from the book, called Game Change, which is about Palin on the ticket with McCain.
It is , according to many people who were involved in the campaign, VERY truthful.
So, in the book, Palin showed the same issues as Trump...being way overwhelmed by people who ":knew things", displaying incredible ignorance about history...at one point she said to someone that she planned on talking to the Queen of england about political matters, had no idea there was a Prime Minister or what he did. She had zero awareness of history, they had to explain WW2 to her.
the only difference was Trump is exceedingly arrogant and Palin was painfully insecure.
