Rachel then pivoted to issue after issue where a large percentage of Trump voters were severely misinformed. They live in a virtually fact-free or made-up-fact environment.
The stock market under President Obama soared. The Dow Jones Industrial average went from 7,949.09 to 19,614.91, again, up 11,665.72. In other words, it more than doubled. 39% of Trump voters think the stock market went down under Obama.
Unemployment dropped from 7.8% to 4.6% during the Obama administration. Clinton, Johnson, Stein and other voters are well aware of that fact.
But not Donald Trump voters; 67% of them believe unemployment rose under President Obama.

(6,067 posts)The reality is that their beliefs are driven by hate. They readily accept that, for instance, Obama tanked the stock market even though the Dow and S&P 500 are published in their local paper every day. They believe things like that because they know in their hearts that that's exactly what a {racial epithet} president would do.

(31,513 posts)the lies because to do otherwise would mean that they were wrong in their support of Trump. It's willful ignorance and it has become a trademark for the right wingers.

(13,414 posts)It's one thing to have an incorrect opinion about something due to the lack of information. It's another thing entirely to refuse to accept the truth or reality of an issue when presented with indisputable facts about it. Basically, climate change denialism has taken over their entire mental processing.

(823 posts)It is not just that republicans are misinformed, they are, but they don't care. Democrats have to come to understand that logic and facts don't matter to the vast majority of the republican party, they just see an "R" and they will follow. Therefor talking to them like they can or will change their minds is pointless...and frustrating.

(3,524 posts)I find it very disturbing. There can be no deviation from the truth according to tRump. It smacks of fascism. You cannot use facts with these people. Politi-fact, snopes, or any site that tries to break stories down into "known and not know" is imeadiately rejected as left wing propaganda. And it doesn't matter how many times you try to unravel a broad slur to reveal it as a lie (Podesta sups with satan worshiping artist, anyone?), they won't accept the fact that they are being lied to, constantly, non stop.
That hate filled cesspool must have a very addictive effect; they insist on bathing in it every day, even as it turns them into fearful raging drones. It feels like that movie "Invasion of the body snatchers"; I keep running into friends and acquaintances who a few months ago were expressing curiosity about tRump and are now full blown rage machines who pivot from fact to produce more lies, then pivot again to accuse Hillary and CNN of being the "real" liars and creators of "fake news". It actually is scary to witness first hand the effects of brainwashing.

(7,113 posts)A prime example is my 40-something nephew, a senior mechanic at his city's bus garage.
In a recent FB exchange, he tried to needle his liberal aunt by telling me how he's been walking with a cane, but, because of "lousy Obamacare," he probably won't get surgery for it before he's retirement age.
I answered how surprising it was that he even had to rely on Obamacare, since certainly a city the size of his would offer employees a full benefits package. While awaiting his reply, I googled it, and, sure enough, his city had a generous insurance package for employees and their dependents.
The only response I received from my beloved nephew was a smiley face, presumably because he he knew his aunt caught him in a lie, trying to blame Obamacare -- and therefore Obama and all us nasty liberals -- for whatever problems he was having with EMPLOYER-SPONSORED insurance plan.
He's not a dumb guy, but judging by this exchange and the patently false right-wing "memes" he posts, he -- and no doubt other Trump voters like him -- willfully embrace and spread lies that anybody could see through if they weren't drinking that Trump-brand Kool-Aid.

(8,690 posts)Their selling controversy, not journalism. Selling conflict, not facts. Selling ratings, not information.
They don't give a shit about low information voters, they depend on it. They breed it.
They don't care if trump sells us out to Putin and fosters the rise of fascism as long as they can get the exclusive.
While Sanders was all but ignored and Clinton was buried in emails, a narcissistic and racist and bigoted and fascist sexual predator, who has done a dozen things that would have ended any presidential candidate's aspirations in the past, got live, non-stop coverage of an empty podium he would eventually stand at.
The media, unashamedly, helped create this mess. They continue to do little to stop it.
