The connection between Trump and the BREXIT vote is: government austerity

When democratic governments stop spending money on its people to directly improve their lives and cuts such spending which creates economic hardship and pain, then the public's faith and trust in government erodes. And, as the economic pain grows, populists leaders who offer a scapegoat (historically a racial/ethnic minority) find political success.

2. That's their plan for every Democratic president.

When they have the presidency, run up the debt by cutting taxes, and when a Dem assumes the presidency, cry about the debt and institute budget cutting measures like the sequester. They know that this will cause economic pain which then makes it easier for the Republicans to win in off year elections.

4. They didn't vote for the cuts. They voted for racist populism.

Both in the UK and for Trump, they didn't vote for the cuts or to leave the Euro. They voted for a White populist movement because those movements held up globalization and immigration as the cause of their economic pain, when in reality it was govt. austerity.

don't know why there is a need to keep seeing them as racists. many of trump supporters are better off financially than clinton supporters.

UKIP and its fellow europhobes/xenophobes/racists worked tirelessly to convince voters that immigrants were soaking up jobs, education, healthcare , benefits, housing etc. to the detriment of Brits.

After years of economic austerity and neglect/erosion of services by successive governments, the idea found fertile ground with many.
