This is what old Deplorables voted for --- large copays while your insurance is gutted

Donald Trump and Speaker Paul Ryan plan to pass a plan to privatize the Medicare system, and they’ll be helped by Republicans in the House and Senate. They will try to use PR terms and call the plan “premium support” but it is really a plan to privatize the system that so many get health care from.

Michael Wynn, a resident of Salem, Oregon, wrote a letter to the editor at the Statesman Journal newspaper describing what will happen to average Americans:

Privatizing means giving seniors vouchers so they can shop for health insurance on the open market. Copays, deductibles, tier 1, 2, 3 medications, in-plan providers versus out-of-plan, etc. are all part of the health insurance jungle.

How do you feel about your parents or grandparents analyzing dozens of complex plans? Many of my patients on Medicare have cognitive impairment. They would not be able to determine what insurance company’s policy was best for them.

Because insurance companies must make a profit, they will charge a senior with high blood pressure, diabetes and a hip that needs to be replaced far more than that senior living on Social Security could possibly pay. Many readers know that a policy for a healthy couple costs between $800-$1,600/month and that’s with a high deductible and anywhere between 20-50 percent copay for hospitalizations. A hip replacement costs around $50,000. How many seniors can afford $10,000-$25,000 cash for that copay?

When some citizens voted Republican, they thought they were going to “take back America.” Instead, Republicans are going to take back millions of Americans’ health care by destroying Medicare.

Michael Wynn

Get ready for herds of hunters blowing away everything that moves in your National Parks and public lands America. Ryan Zinke was hand picked by Donnie Jr., endangered species & trophy hunter extraordinaire!

The only bright side will be if Denise Juneau takes a shot at the open seat and Gianforte stays home, we could have a chance of a Democrat taking it. I think Dems in this state would be particularly motivated in a special election.

*Before the ACA, Insurance policies were allowed to basically sell you lemons. It might pay for a kid's immunizations or the occasional routine physical or pap smear, but if you are ever sick or seriously injured, you are up sh*t's creek. High deductibles, out of pocket amounts, limited prescriptions, disturbingly low lifetime maximums, 0 ambulance coverage. These plans were cheap. These plans were offered by employers and direct membership alike. The ACA eliminated crap, cheap plans like this because they screw the consumer.

* Employer paid plans generally have better benefits on the whole than direct pay. They are able to negotiate a better price for better benefits because they are essentially buying in bulk.

* Managed care vs UCR plans (Usual, Customary, Reasonable- your basic plan. Doesn't need referrals but you tend to pay more on copays, out of pocket, deductible and have less benefits than managed care.)

* The number of providers is limited by the insurer that you pick. It's generally a good idea to research that ahead of time before choosing any insurance plan.

Without you telling us what kind of plan you had before and after the ACA, you may as well be comparing apples to oranges.

Those are some interesting little right-wing talking points you have there.

Employer-provided health insurance was just as mercurial, if not more so in regards to what MD's were "in-network" and how much you would be forking out.

Nice try though. I hope you love Donnie's new health plans he has for you. All you have to do under his plan is be stinking filthy rich! YAY! So much better!

and don't love the ACA I am now a Trump supporter and right winger. Well thanks for that label but for your information I lost an oncologist in the MIDDLE of treatment and a physical therapist for my son as well as an internal medicine doc that I had been with for 15 years because of ACA. My family paid double my house payment per month just for the premium. So label away but my reality is that ACA didn't work for us. Feel good about yourself now? I don't for one second think a repub plan will work. I just wish that the ACA had done all it had promised for me. I still believe without a doubt that Trump can not in any way create a plan for people like myself and so many others like me. I think we could have made ACA work brilliantly and Hillary would have been the one to do it. I remember when she started it when she was first lady. People didn't like that but only because of her role not because of her ideas.

after the experiences with my wife's mother, who is in a nursing home, I will never have Medicare. I will just have to work until I die. She is 93. She has never owned a home or accumulated any wealth. She is in a nursing home because she requires 24 hour supervision. Besides Social Security she has no other income. With all that, every 6 months, my wife has to fill out a shitload of paperwork, submit bank statements, and hope she made no mistakes (god forbid she does, then all hell breaks loose) so that she can continue to stay on Medicare. I bring this up, because today my wife is at the nursing home now, doing her semi annual jumping through the hoops. It is cruel how we treat our unwealthy aged in this country. When people say "Medicare for all" I say "no fucking thank you". The system is a cruel, malignant joke.

on edit: "The system is a cruel, malignant joke"- that is about my feelings on just about every aspect of our banana republic.

my point was is this someone that is just sharing an opinion or someone that has experience and or has worked with the creation of the ACA. I thought that it was weird that he signed his name as a Salem resident as opposed to stating his credentials so to speak. I could fill a page about my opinion but I can only speak to what has happened with my family. I was wondering if this person might actually be qualified with certainties unlike myself.
