Facebook Is Finally Taking Action Against Fake News

After an election season infused with hoax stories, more than a month of global outcry and at least one real-world incident of gun violence in the U.S., Facebook is finally stepping up to combat the spread of fake news.

The social network announced Thursday that it will work with fact-checking outlets to label fake stories, flagged by users, as “disputed.” Adam Mosseri, a vice president in charge of the news feed, shared the changes in a press release. 

Now before sharing a fake story on the site, you’ll get a warning that its accuracy has been “disputed.” To find out why, you’ll be able to click a link for a fact-check of the article.

The updates are rolling out Thursday, so you won’t see the disputed flags right away, but expect them shortly.

3. When you can glance on YouTube and watch CNN lie directly to your face...

...it's hard not to.

While I wouldn't trust the RT farther than I can toss them, I have no further trust for any other media either.

I now assume ALL media is a lie until ACTUAL EVIDENCE, FIRSTHAND, NO PAYWALL shows otherwise.

EVERYTHING else is Fake News.

... the most viewer friendly of Russia's propaganda outlets. They are pretty insidious in that they have a lot of great stories that act as sort of a camouflage for the propaganda parts.

2. Glad to see this happening.

I don't use Facebook or social media for news so I was surprised to see that so many people did. Since people apparently do use Facebook for news it has to be held to legitimate journalistic standards.
