Tom Perez Career:

#TomPerez is an accomplished person. He's the Secretary of Labor but has done so much more. A few highlights. 1/

Early on in his career, Perez worked for the DoJ in the Civil Rights division, prosecuting white supremacists. 2/

Perez then served as the Deputy Assistant AG for civil rights and led an inter-agency task force to protect workers from exploitation. 3/

He then served on Montgomery County council where he pushed legislation against predatory lending & introduced affordable drug initiative 4/

Perez worked on O'Malley's successful campaign for Governor of MD and then served as his Secretary of Labor. 5/

Perez then served as Assistant AG for Civil Rights under Obama, where one focus was eradicating discrimination against ppl with HIV. 6/

Among his other accomplishments as AAG, he oversaw training/implementation of the Hate Crimes Prevention Act and fought for LGBT rights. 7/

Perez fiercely fought against trans discrimination, police abuse of PoC, sued Sheriff Arpaio & fought against rollback of voting rights 8/

And during his tenure as Secretary of Labor, Perez has been an exemplary ally to unions and American workers. 9/

In sum, Tom Perez has a career-long record of fighting for *all* of us: black, brown, immigrant, woman, union member, LGBTQ. 10/

Tom Perez has been in our corner for doing the work. He's the right person at the right time to fight an evil he's been fighting for yrs 11/

3. Yes, but wasn't Tom Perez an ardent supporter of the TPP?! You left that part out, along with other disqualifications.

I hope Biden and Obama come out and endorse him. I also wonder if this will shift the current endorsement slate. Those were all made when Perez hadn't thrown his hat into the ring. His relationship with great organized labor will probably factor into support for his bid as well.

9. What's his plan for the DNC?

Is he willing to work in all states?

Dean did an amazing job, but as he's taken himself out of the running, I'm hoping for someone who will work everywhere instead of just shoring up already-blue states.

Then again, we'll probably never have a legit election again, so it may not matter who is in charge of anything.

10. Building a strategy that supports all 50 states, DC, territories & Democrats abroad:

ORGANIZE FOR OPPORTUNITY

Democrats win when we tell voters who we are, what we value and communicate our message in every community we can. We can’t do that without the best progressive organizers in America. The DNC will build an increased grassroots effort to speak directly with voters by:

Recruiting experienced organizers and building a permanent organizing department

Develop a program to train the next generation of diverse advocates and leaders

Investing in local organizers and parties by increasing training and support

Building a strategy that supports all 50 states, the District of Columbia, territories and Democrats Abroad to ensure we reach Democrats regardless of where they are

not that I have a say in it in any case.

I like Keith Ellison, but I think he will do more good in congress at this point. He's willing to fight and we need that right now.

There's still the question of whether we'll ever have a real election again, but we don't have any ability to change that.

15. There are county committees

that need to be rebuilt, 3142 of them.

There are municipal Chairmen with the basic NGP VAN accounts that are prevented from using the vast majority of features of the votebuilder platform, like virtual phonebanks, and creating call lists for fundraising.

Local Dems are turning to email marketing vendors because the national wont give them access.

16. Here is why I like Tom Perez

This article from Perez has one of the main reasons why I am supporting Perez. I am an election law junkie and I have volunteered a great deal in voter protection efforts. During the Bush administration, the Civil Rights Section and the Voting Rights division of the Civil Rights section of the DOJ was destroyed by the bushies. Partisan hacks were placed in non partisan slots illegally including an idiot named Christian Adams who spearheaded the New Black Panther silliness.

AG Holder and Tom Perez rebuilt the Civil Rights section of the DOJ and the voting rights division. They did a great job and Perez was the lead of the Civil Rights division when he was promoted to Sec. of Labor. This is from Perez's article on why he is running https://mic.com/articles/162459/tom-perez-dnc-chair#.K1AO41GLd

After putting myself through college with Pell Grants and working on the back of a garbage truck, I passed up offers to join white-shoe law firms, instead choosing a career as a civil rights attorney for the U.S. Justice Department prosecuting racially motivated hate crimes and protecting workers from exploitation.

Years later, I led the department's civil rights division as we pushed for progress across the country. We went toe to toe with Republican leaders in states like Texas who want to turn back the clock on voting rights; we stood up to rogue sheriffs like Joe Arpaio who want to immigrant-bait and immigrant-bash; we cracked down on police misconduct and held police departments accountable to their responsibility to uphold the Constitution while protecting communities; we worked aggressively to enforce laws protecting women's access to reproductive health services; and we fought for marriage equality in every state.

GOP voter suppression will be a major issue for the DNC and Perez is the best person to deal with this issue. I have volunteered in voter protection efforts for a long time and Perez is clearly the best person to fight GOP voter suppression
