I've fought with Democrats through supposedly impossible political odds for decades

...Nixon/Agnew, Reagan/Bush, Bush Quayle, Gingrich...

Most of the cynicism and despair being offered in response to moves by our legislators to confront Trump is self-defeating and short-sighted. The political landscape isn't static, there isn't a permanent republicanocracy. We need to press them to do their jobs. We haven't yet suspended elections.

That's what we've done, with success, in the past, and we shouldn't be talking ourselves down now from confronting Trump with whatever political levers we have available. Not every vote or initiative will pass, but politicians are more malleable than they pretend, even these 'hardline' republicans that some folks want to convince us are invincible.

Enough with talking down Democratic efforts to deal with the crisis before us! Resist!

Trump is a kind of unknown factor, but he still is the president, with the authority and the limits of that authority.
