The ongoing feud between the de Blasio and Cuomo administrations took a turn toward the absurd Thursday, when reps for the powerful pols spent the day feuding over the fate of a wayward deer.
The lovestruck buck that swam across the East River to find a mate will be put to death Friday after galloping into a nearby housing complex, a city spokesperson said.
The deer was brought to Animal Care & Control. We do not intend to release the deer back into the busy and dense borough of Manhattan, Natalie Grybauskas said.
But James Allen, spokesman for Gov. Cuomo, said his boss has offered to help find a new habitat for the deer immediately.
Over the last day, the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation advised the City of New York that there are alternatives to euthanasia that they can consider, including relocation. The City has now captured the deer, and Governor Cuomo has directed DEC to offer assistance to the City to transport and find a new habitat for it immediately, Allen said.
The deer was first spotted in the beginning of the month in a small, wooded section inside Jackie Robinson Park and has been living there ever since, drawing crowds along with criticism from across the city.
Early Thursday morning, the lonely buck was captured on video racing through the Polo Grounds Towers housing development, jumping over a fence into a patch of grass and sniffing out some residents that came to say hello.

(19,429 posts)Experts speculated that the deer had probably walked or swam to Manhattan from the Bronx in search of a mate, like so many young bucks before him. A Parks Department spokesperson advised park-goers who encountered the deer to refrain from feeding or approaching him.
In recent years, the city has struggled to curb a growing deer population on Staten Island, where strict gun and hunting restrictions have allowed deer to flourish. Earlier this year, the city began trapping and performing vasectomies on male deer, a policy which some experts called "really stupid."

Apparently it is a 'city law' so I don't see where Cuomo is involved. Just give the deer a vasectomy and put him on the Staten Island Ferry.
He'll probably be so scared he'll swim the Kill Van Kull to Bayonne.
