(7,770 posts)fill in the blank. Sure. And what was the guy's name before Hitler was selected? Did history think well of him? Did what he did matter? Just wondering. Obama has done so much good but this is the end. It's not going to work.

(18,539 posts)He was Chancellor for just over a month and proved to be rather incompetent. He was however a key factor in the intrigues that shifted power from the German Parliament to the Presidency, creating an autocracy. That is something the Nazis took full advantage of once they were put in power.
Von Schleicher supported Hitler for Chancellor because he hated Hitler's main competitor Franz von Papen. Von Schleicher believed he would be appointed Minister of Defense in return for his support. Unfortunately for Herr Schleicher he had been dealing with Ernst Röhm, the head of the SA, behind Hitler's back. He hoped to take advantage of power struggles within the Nazi party but his actions were not as secret as he thought and he was assassinated during the Night of the Long Knives.

(7,770 posts)That's not Obama of course. (sounds more like the Republcons though supporting Trump because they hated Hillary) But what if someone is worse than Trump next? I just can't see a good outcome any time soon.

(90,616 posts)He said we will probably not know. In other words, this is covert action. You know: secret. Like Bin Ladin -- we knew nothing until the bugger was dead.

(9,527 posts)Russia didn't cause Clinton to lose or Trump to win. There was never a chance that Obama was going to declare martial law or issue an executive order overturning the results. There was nothing to justify such a step.
