Library cat outlasts councilman that wanted him gone

Browser got his job at the White Settlement Public Library when he was just a kitten. That was in October of 2010, the library’s website says.

In July, a city worker apparently demanded Browser’s removal

Browser got a reprieve following a world-wide backlash, and reports say there were still some hard feelings among council members after the cat fight. Councilman Clements eventually ran out of his nine lives after he was defeated in a landslide in November’s election. Mayor Ron White says as far as he’s concerned, Browser’s job title is now “Library Cat for Life.”“Browser is still employed and will be as long as he wishes to continue his duties as mascot and reading helper for the children at the library,” White said.

The councilman is an idiot. There is a reason for the saying, while the cat's away the mice will play.

I went to Atlantic city a few years ago. I saw a man feeding and petting cats under the boardwalk and started chatting with him. The casinos had gotten together and had all the stray cats rounded up. Within months they had a huge mouse problem. Who couldn't foresee that? The fat cats sitting in their offices, that's who. In comes a program to catch, neuter, return. They catch the cats, give them their shots, neuter them and clip their ear. Then they are returned from where they came.

So the councilman wanted the cat gone. Instead he is.

There's one thing you just don't mess with....cute, cuddly library kitties.

Secondly, the burg west of Ft. Worth really needs to change its name. Or at least add oppressor. White Oppressor Settlement sounds better and is more historically accurate.

because I know those cats keep any rodent problems way down. They're also nice to scritch if they're in the mood, the answering purr relaxing me and probably getting me to spend more.

Back in Boston, the health inspectors just looked the other way. Cat dander was far less of a problem than rat urine over everything.
