The door buzzards were hung by the chimney with care...

Last edited Mon Dec 19, 2016, 03:44 AM - Edit history (1)

At this season it is time to revisit the thread posted last year that became not only an instant DU classic, but DU's Christmas classic.

I was one of many who had a lot of fun with it, but it was Orrex who first seized on the "door buzzard" theme.

For a real seasonal hoot from many fellow and sister DUers at play, click on what has come to be known as 'the door buzzard thread'--yule be glad you did.

Could my neighbors be in federal trouble?

For violating federal law by placing a Merry Christmas mat in front of the door buzzard.

He's been in Witness Protection ever since.

Luckily, we've had a few threads like this one, where the OP author could have shut it down by editing or deleting early on--and didn't.

What was great was that so many DUers contributed to the hilarity.

....or not.

Same with the Door Buzzard. The best threads are the one that have a good mix of posters prepared to Believe Anything and those who can spin a yarn along with the OP (or whoever starts laughing at the OP).

Gods do we need some laughs around here.

One of my neighbors has a Merry Christmas mat outside their door and every time I see it, visions of door buzzards dance through my head. I really should get a mat too because the flooring material just outside the door becomes slippery when it rains.

Once after a big snow I was trying to open my door while lugging some heavy shopping bags and slipped and fell. It was a dramatic fall: fast exciting footwork, flailing windmill arms, flying groceries, a clean landing flat on my back in the snow. The neighbor kids were outside playing and witnessed this entertainment, yet didn't react at all. No snickering, no pretending not to laugh. Damn kids. That was a funny fall.

I haven't had a funny fall like yours, just a sad one. Coming in with the groceries, I dropped a bag--and broke a bottle of wine.
