Can the "2016 Postmortem" be ended?

The corpse is stinking up the place. Thousands of cuts have been made. People who want to engage in flagellation could do that in "Religion & Spirituality."

The Democratic Party made a lot of mistakes in 2016. It is a venue to discuss those mistakes and (hopefully) learn from them for future elections.

Personally, I avoided any news about the election until after Thanksgiving because the wounds were too raw for me. I'm just now emotionally able to read all of this and pick it apart.

I don't think it's going to happen at DU.

Too many are looking for outside agencies to blame, determined not to engage in self-reflection or to change business as usual. If people really wanted to have that discussion, I think it would be good for Democrats and for the Party, as well as for DU.

I don't think DU wants to have that kind of honest, open discussion.

While I've talked a bit, the only in-depth discussions I've had are with family, because we listen to one another and still love and respect each other when we disagree. It was only there that I've been able to say what I really think and feel.

I will say that the foremost response I've had is one of unadulterated rage. I wasn't shocked; I predicted this numerous times over the last year. I hoped desperately I was wrong. I knew I wasn't when I went to bed on election night, before all the results were in, and I spent the next weeks in silent rage, afraid to respond to all the shock and awe and dismay around me because I didn't want to lash out at people.

still, i don't mind having it around -- i don't visit it much anymore myself, but there are clearly people who feel a need, and having a place to vent isn't really hurting anything or anyone

There could be one for the other side, too. This would accommodate about 95 percent of the current postmortem discussion. Maybe we could then reserve the postmortem forum for talking about constructive ideas to improve our chances in 2018.

...yes because it so often misses the mark. Hillary Clinton won the vote; it was not close. We have to focus on the other races - Congress down to school districts. And, one of the reasons Trump will become President should be evident today - the mechanics nor nether democratic nor Democratic.

but only if:
1. It remains available for reference, even if only as a 'Read Only' directory
2. Another forum can be created called 2018/2020 Election Strategy ( or something like that)

The 2016 Postmortem served a great purpose in the beginning because we could all go through the stages of grief and divest ourselves of the initial rage and despair together. But as time passed, the rage and complaining about the same things over and over has gotten so toxic that it is getting in the way of any productive outcome that would inspire us to move forward into the strategic planning for a better future for the Dem party and the country as a whole.

And while I can understand the anger and frustration that we all share, people were starting to be mean and abusive to each other, and that's not right. In fact, if we don't stop it, then we're doing exactly what the Repubs and their Russian cabal WANT us to do!

Right now we are overwhelmed by the huge tasks at hand, but if we put our heads together and identify and accept what we can change and what we can't, we can plan a strategy from the bottom up, define our resource needs, and get this grassroots revolution started!

And let's make a promise to be kind to each other, ok?
