much older. He explained why he had to sing that way. The song was very popular at the time, but was considered subversive, so he couldn't sing the words, though the song's wide popularity made the show want him to present it anyway. Apparently it was assumed that even without the words, everyone would enjoy it, since everyone knew the words anyway.
