December 19, 2016 By Taegan Goddard
The Cook Political Report notes the scope of the GOPs congressional victories: Only 15 of the 241 House Republicans won their races by less than a 10-point margin, even though nearly two dozen of them represented districts that Hillary Clinton carried.
Overall, House Republicans won 51% of the national vote, and will be representing 55% of the seats in the lower chamber.

(19,558 posts)How to weaken the Republican hold on their house seats, even though they're gerrymandered at the moment to help them easily retain power. Which is going to mean putting up Democratic candidates electable in those seats for the next cycles. If we don't make some substantial gains in 2018 and win back control by 2020, we are screwed for another full decade.

(24,402 posts)Ryan has to struggle with keeping the "Freedom Caucus" in line in the House, to say nothing of getting the (typically) more cautious Senate GOPers to stay in line to get something through. If House Democrats hold the line against giving Ryan any support in the House (to compensate for Freedom Caucus) and Senate Dems hold together in the Senate, that should make things pretty miserable for them. What I envision is turning the Senate into a "Graveyard" where (bad) bills go to die.
