President-elect Donald Trump has made the unusual choice to continue employing his own private security team instead of leaving the task up to the Secret Service. Its playing with fire, said former Secret Service agent Jonathan Wackrow, who worked on President Obamas detail during his 2012 campaign. Having a mix-and-match security team working events in tandem with the Secret Service increases the Services liability, it creates greater confusion, and it creates greater risk, Wackrow said. Trump is expected to continue that same system through his presidency, Politico reports. All modern presidents have up to now deferred to the Secret Service, leaving just event security to local law enforcement. Breaking from the norm, Trump has instead elected to maintain his own private security force, which is led by retired veteran and New York City cop Keith Schiller. You never want to comingle a police function with a private security function, Wackrow said. If you talk to the guys on the detail and the guys who are running the rallies, thats been a little bit difficult because its so abnormal.

(15,233 posts)A private security force privately funded is near the top. Public money going into such a force implies some Congressional oversight. A privately funded force with cover provided by the Commander in Chief is terrifying.

Let Trump pay for his private security.
Make him sign a waiver; if him or a family member are assassinated
the responsibility will be solely on Donald J. Trump.
Problem solved.
If this fuck wad does not want the Secret Service protection, so be it.
This entire family is sickening to their very core.
No rules or laws apply to them.

The Secret Service will only let such nonsense go so far.

I'm guessing this has a whole lot to do with him holing up in the tower and not wanting to live in DC. I bet they have a four year supply upstairs already in some flunkies apartment.

People like Erik Prince and James O'Keefe now have a supporter in the White House.
(Geez, I typed that White Hose for a minute and almost left it like that given the ramifications).
It's fucking unreal.

(16,646 posts)The article seems to imply that this is not a replacement for the Secret Service, but for local LOE's at various events. The SS will still have responsibility for his personal protection, but his security team will be deciding who gets in and who does not. He may decide it isn't worth it when he finds out that they don't have the same authority to arrest and detain that the local LOE's do.

(7,615 posts)The secret service can not eject protesters unless they are a security risk. Private security is not bound by the first amendment. Another interesting historical tidbid.
Do you know what ss stands for as in Hitler's waffen ss?
It is Schutzstaffel which was the "protection squadron" that was initially formed in the 1920's to police the political rallies hitler was having all across germany. As Hitler power grew culminating with him winning election They morphed into the military force dedicated to enforce and carry out the horrors the fuhrer ordered..
Trump wants his current security detail from his rallies to continue to serve him. Think about it.
