The Far Right Has Their Focus on Our Marriages, and Won't Stop Ever
Despite lying about being the most pro-LGBT candidate ever, Donald Trump will put into motion forces that will be able to weaken, and then ultimately overturn the Supreme Court's historic Obergefell ruling that found the Constitution provides the right of marriage to same-sex couples. So says longtime LGBT rights journalist and activist Matt Baume, in his weekly YouTube video, "How Republicans Could Repeal Marriage Equality in 3 Easy Steps."
How?
Even if Trump were supportive of LGBT civil rights (he's not) almost if not every single person he has nominated or appointed isn't. Bigly.
As Baume points out, Trump will place on the U.S. Supreme Court justices who will have little trouble overturning Obergefell. And before that, his attorney General nominee, Sen. Jeff Sessions will be happy to ask the Court to do so. He'll also be supportive of court cases that will push the court into examining Obergefell.
And there's more.

(14,530 posts)how many people I have said this to and they actually believe TRUssia is in full support of LGBT rights, 'cause he had his picture taken holding the rainbow flag. That is all the "proof" they need. All those anti-gays he is putting in positions of power are of no concern to them. He held the Pride flag!! he won't work to help roll back rights.
IOW they are so fucking invested in TRUssia he could rape their sisters and they will justify it. I have a couple of people I know like this and I can't even look at them the same.

(94,489 posts)First, Trump doesn't actually care about this; there were plenty of targets he attacked and gays weren't one of them.
Second, it's not that easy. As with California, imposing a post-hoc ban means that the legal status of thousands of couples is in question.
Likelihood is that they'll enforce "religious objection" options, and leave marriage as it is.

(53,944 posts)His entire cabinet, almost, are anti-gay. Many have said, many times before, they will take action against GLBT in a variety of ways, to keep our "special rights" from being law.
I am sick of fucking straight people who immediately, almost as if they hear the dog-whistle, screech..."NOPE! Not gonna happen!" They are so cavalier with the rights of others, oh wait, they don't consider us actual people deserving of equality and "frivolous" things, like marriage equality, are unworthy of their concern. So they make sure to tell us "gay" people (as if they really call us gay), we are being silly and worrying our pretty heads over nothing. Then, there are the ones who don't even say anything, so hopefully, they will continue that, should the worst happen, because I won't be kind when I see their crocodile tears!
To our real allies, thank you for standing with us and understanding our fears and not dismissing them and treating us like 2nd class citizens or children.

ETA: Well, that response came off kinda snippy, didn't it? Apologies. I was in the process of taking out the trash (MIRT) and had three windows open and made a quick response rather than just making the correction and thanking you.

I don't think anyone is thinking it will be easy, but it will definitely be a goal for his cabinet and his constituents.
