California isn't seceding. It's not feasible. But we categorically reject Trump and Deplorabilism.

We have two Democratic senators, a Democratic congressional delegation, a Democratic governor, and a Democratic supermajority in our legislature.

If you look at it as an amiable divorce and they do occur where both parties agree to a fair distribution of the assets and arrangement going forward it could theoretically work. Folks from red states would have visitation rights.

just no violence. Given the size of economy plus the $$$$ outflow to the red state leeches, the blue counties of California would be sitting pretty. I'm not against it. I'm for it and will move there if it happens. Look at the benefits, you would be able to get rid of the gun violence once and for all since the NRA members would book up to leave.

I have a question, perhaps you can bring some insight. Do you or do you not believe contemptuous language is the sine qua non of a Deplorable? For instance when I go to our president elect's twitter page I see a lot of disparagement of others from his devotees. Of course, most of them are anonymous. I actually have a begrudging respect for those who put their legal names behind their malignance.

My insight is that people who are quick to denigrate others are compensating for their own personal failures. Do you believe that is why Deplorables are so quick to denigrate others?

Is not love and empathy stronger than hate and fear?

California has the same media, the same news and they do not buy the GOP horseshit. Even the Red and Blue counties are almost even in square miles so it can't be all urban voters. What makes Californians so much smarter politically then my native Nebraskans are? I'd love to know, because any progressive political party that's against the GOP radioactive slag heap could learn a lot from Cali.

we do represent the national divide we see with urban/rural. The high population centers are along the coast, plus Silicon Valley, and very liberal. My county went about 75% for Hillary. In the central part of the state, lower population, you can find flip counties going overwhelmingly Republican, and I suppose (didn't look at county numbers) for T.

Having sane districts (drawn by an independent commission) does keep down the crazy.

10. Diverse demographics
Tue Dec 20, 2016, 09:20 AM
Dec 2016

In terms of the demographics of its population, California is the most diverse state in the country. Less than 60 percent of its population are native English speaking and 75% of the residents less than one year in age are a "minority" (although that statistic gives new meaning to the concept of a minority). Compare that to, for example, Pennsylvania, where 90 percent of the population are native English speaking and less than 1/3 of those under 1 year of age are minorities.

When you look at the bluest states, one thing that you find most have in common (but not all) is a higher level of diversity of population than the reddest states.

Actually, there was a petition filed by a couple of people in Oregon, which proposed that the state begin a process of "peaceful secession" and suggested such secession might be "alone or in conjunction with other states and Canadian provinces that seek to form a new nation, including but not limited to California, Washington, Hawaii, Nevada, Alaska and British Columbia.”

But that petition was withdrawn shortly after it was filed. Which was the smart thing to do since it had zero chance of succeeding.

I know being part of the bible belt probably doesn't help things becuase for some reason most of the religious folks I know are bigoted and prejudiced against anyone that doesn't look like them and even those that are not of their religious affiliation. When will this all end.

our surplus, just as they'd done under G.W. Bush which turned a projected $8 billion dollar surplus into a $27 billion dollar deficit within five months.

They'll try each and every way to punish "disloyal" California by forcing us into deficits again so they can - again - force a governor recall and install a Republican to make things worse - just as they'd done in 2001.

And I'm sick and tired of having to pay exuberant taxes to States whose majority population hates us. Now that I know that Putin is behind Calexit, I no longer support it, but I do hope that our governor and legislature is ten times tougher than Gray Davis' administration and can stop Republicans from using CA as their personal cash-cow.
