Kerry had those blue collar men working the states for him which they did not do for hillary because they can't stand a woman being in charge.
This is exactly why they voted for Drumpf.
Blinded by their white! Bring back American Apartheid! They can dress it up in all the economic BS they want, but they are so afraid of not being at the top of the social food chain.

(99,710 posts)By keeping the Senate small states would still have power and by abolishing the Electoral College every voter would have the same power. The Electoral College punishes voters who live in densely populated areas.
Practically I don't know.

(13,919 posts)We would think long and hard about what to do with the senate, abolish the electoral college, and and have a federally run, transparent system for voting and for redistricting of house seats in non gerrymandered ways.

(17,911 posts)...but hardly anyone lives in all those red counties, particularly west of the Mississippi. The blue is where the vast majority of the people reside. Bad as the electoral college is, we don't elect politicians based on square miles.
However, I agree that we've got some issues to sort out.

(99,710 posts)The divide is economic, and it is massive. According to the Brookings analysis, the less-than-500 counties that Clinton won nationwide combined to generate 64 percent of America's economic activity in 2015. The more-than-2,600 counties that Trump won combined to generate 36 percent of the country's economic activity last year.

The GOP has done nothing but stir resentment against President Obama. They routinely lie about his resord and accomplishments and many, if not most of Trump's voters believe the lies!
We are not going to win over people who still think Obama was born in Kenya. We are not going to win over people who are willing to accept tens of thousands in crop subsidies or other benefits each year (because they are fine, upstanding people) while decrying "Mexicans" and black people for being welfare mooches.
They are living a fact-free life. So tell me, how exactly do you think we can reach these folks? 'Cause Hillary told them the truth. Trump lied to their faces. Hell he is even telling them now he lied to them and they STILL are lapping his shit up. That's a whole lotta cognitive dissonance to deal with.

If they are so massively unpopular how did they win more presidential and senate votes:
The White House may not be the only institution in Washington that Democrats lost on Tuesday despite getting more votes than Republicans.
It turns out that Democrats also got more votes for the U.S. Senate than Republicans...

Half the country does not live in those red counties:
About 46.2 million people, or 15 percent of the U.S. population, reside in rural counties, which spread across 72 percent of the nation's land area. From 2011 to 2012, those non-metro areas lost more than 40,000 people, a 0.1 percent drop.Jun 13, 2013
