American Airlines awarded $5.1 million in damages from Sabre Corp. over 2011 antitrust case
A New York jury awarded US Airways, now part of American Airlines, $5.1 million in damages Tuesday after ruling that Southlakes Sabre Corp. violated antitrust laws in a dispute that dates to 2011.
The case involves a contractual dispute over US Airways continued use of Sabres global distribution system, a computerized reservation system that travel agencies use to shop, compare and book airline tickets.
Airlines pay a fee to Sabre, one of the worlds largest global distribution system operators, for every reservation made through its system. Airlines, in turn, gain access to a critical pool of potential customers, many of them high-value business travelers.
In its 2011 lawsuit, US Airways claimed that Sabres contract demands for continued access to its platform were anticompetitive.
