A Polish lorry driver was murdered in a terrorist hijacking after being told that he was too early to deliver his goods and had to wait overnight.
Lukasz Urban, 37, may have been attacked as he slept in the cab of his 40-tonne lorry near his destination, a steel warehouse in the northwest of Berlin. The vehicle was later taken on a rampage through a packed Christmas market in the centre of the city.

Ariel Zurawski, owner of the transport company and the victims cousin, said that he was asked by German authorities to identify Mr Urban from photos and it was clear that he had been fighting for his life before he died.
He said: His face was swollen and bloodied. Police informed me that he had suffered gunshot wounds. Despite being stabbed he was shot dead but I do not believe that one man could have killed my cousin. He was a powerful 6ft 2in (188cm) and weighed 130kg. It had to be a group of people.

Even to the point of finding a sort of grim humor to it.

(27,093 posts)A manhunt is still underway for the driver of the truck which rammed into crowds at the Breitscheidplatz Christmas market, killing 12 and injuring 48. Of those killed, six were German, one was Polish (the original truck driver, Lukasz Urban, a 37-year-old who was found dead in the passenger seat of the vehicle). The identities of the other victims are not yet known.
Isis claimed responsibility for the attack through its news agency Amaq, calling the assailant responsible a soldier who carried out the attack in response to calls to target citizens of the international coalition. However, Isis provided no evidence to support its claim.
Police released Naved B, a Pakistani asylum seeker who they had arrested on Monday night, after finding no evidence that he was the driver of the truck. A bystander had tried to follow the driver of the truck for more than a mile after they witnessed him jump out before it was driven into the Christmas market, but it seems they misidentified the suspect.
We do not want to live paralysed by the fear of evil, said German Chancellor Angela Merkel, before visiting Breitscheidplatz. The attacks - and arrest of an asylum seeker - sparked political debate in Germany over immigration and the policies of Merkel, who is facing re-election next year.
