We've been having some nice rain in Southern California for the past 2 months. Nothing extreme, but enough to soak in the ground.
The drought we'd been having has left dirt in parks, yards and parkwayseven last year's predicted "Godzilla El Niño" couldn't help us.
But now, after several rain storms, there are small green pieces of grass growing in the dirteven in the winter.
Today's rain wasn't even predicted. It was supposed to be cloudy today. And I think we got well over an inch of rainsounds like over 2" to me.
It stopped for a while. We went out and walked the dogs. It started up again, and now it's a heavy rain again.
HURRAY!!!
Happy Winter, DU'rs!

(12,209 posts)Oddly enough, the rain predictions have been off. But in a rain-positive way.
For the past decade the predictions have always been portending heavy rain, then it only rains for 1/2 an hour.

(16,159 posts)It was both scary (why don't they paint reflective lane lines??) and enjoyable to drive in real weather.
I am loving the sight of green grass peeking out in the backyard and the sound of rain on windows.

(9,088 posts)Trick is to get the same people voting in 2018. Especially since off year elections send liberals into hiding.

(10,893 posts)upstate, but it's sort of the same thing. I'm also liking the increased rain. Once when I emailed my friend from Ukraine about how the California weather is during the winter, she told me in so many words that she can't imagine a winter this mild with only rain and no snow, and that we don't have a true winter.

(6,019 posts)We just moved here from Chicago in June, and the drought was the main thing we were concerned about. I had also read a recent article stating it would get worse throughout the 21st century. I'm hoping this year is the first step of proving that hypothesis wrong.
My understanding is all this rain won't come anywhere near replenishing the water table, but it's still good to see it happening a lot. But I believe the water supply coming from Northern California is much better this year. Let's hope it keeps up.
I would love to see some lightning and hear some thunder. That's one of the things I miss about Chicago.

(111,169 posts)and we're supposed to get some wet stuff and white stuff here in NM, where it is desperately needed.
The storm is running smack dab into a cold front whistling through the high passes right now so it should be nice and messy.
