Republicans are haters, and haters gotta hate, so when they can't blame the Dems for everything that happens, they will start blaming each other. The will split into factions and accuse the "others" of not being "true Republicans". It will be the Sunni vs Shia, the Tutsi vs Hutu, the Irish vs the Irish, all over again. The Republican party will tear itself to shreds, and we can be ready to pick up the pieces. (As long as we don't splinter into warring factions as well.)

(15,265 posts)House members are up for re-election in just two short years. Charlie Dent (Pa), who plays a moderate R on tv, was on with Chris Hayes last night. He was already hemming and hawing. When Hayes asked him if he was intimidated by Trump, it took Dent a good 5 secs or more to answer. He fumbled for a good answer about when asked about his stance on social security and medicare. He should be an easy target for Dems, but he hasn't drawn a decent Dem opponent when up for re-election.
That's why it's so important to have strong state Dem parties and build them back up where they've eroded. Reps like Charlie Dent can't keep running unopposed or against poorly funded or novice opponents.
The idea has to be promoted repeatedly that pols like Dent are actively working to make lives worse, not better.
I agree it's better right now for Dems to just step aside and let the Rs expose themselves for what they are: hateful, greedy, unscrupulous and power hungry for themselves to keep it all going.
