Conservatives who say "Now Democrats know what Republicans felt like in 2008"

I've heard this a lot from conservatives, this piece is a good example:
http://monsterhunternation.com/2016/11/14/a-handy-guide-for-liberals-who-are-suddenly-interested-in-gun-ownership/

However this line drives me crazy because as we well know, Trump and Obama are nothing like at all, except for maybe having a bit of cult of personality about them.

Obama was never so amazingly dishonest, so vulgar, so mean, so angry, so erratic, so hostile to the press, so ignorant, he never associated with true racists, etc.

Obama also won his election handily, for good reason, with no tricks, and of course governed with great calm and dignity and balance.

HOW CAN ANY SANE PERSON COMPARE THESE TWO ELECTIONS????

Though we know how *reasonable* they acted towards President Obama and how much respect they demonstrated towards him and how much they wanted to work with him on fixing the country and how much of a chance they gave him.

President Obama was perhaps the most non-partisan President we've had in this country in modern history and most eager to work with Republicans even when he could've steamrolled right over them during the first two years like they do everytime they're in control.

This is how they regard Obama. They view the last eight years as a complete disaster. They believe -- REALLY BEEEELIEVE! -- Obama falsified citizenship for thousands of Mexicans, and enticed them to settle in the US by giving them free housing, so they would vote Democratic. That's just an example, of course. There's also secret FEMA camps, common core education to turn your kids into Europeans, the war on coal, and so on, and so on. Bottom line, they see Obama exactly the way we see Trump. We live in a nation of extremes.

Whatever "fears" they may have had about Obama stemmed for THEIR own insecurities, racism, bigotry, misogyny, etc. The fears were not justified in the real world. President Obama was not an insane maniac like Trump obviously is.

The fear that Trump will go off unhinged and cost us all dearly is a very well founded fear.

If McCain had won in 2008, rather than Obama, I don't think I'd have felt anything close to what I felt on learning Trump had carried the Electoral College. McCain has many faults, but he's relatively decent, for a Republican, seems to have sincere principles, and I believe he's a patriot (who I happen to have some disagreements with, as the man himself said to the woman who called Obama a Muslim on the campaign trail). McCain would've been a credible president; Palin as VP would've been a disaster, but if McCain had won she'd be Dan Quayle 2.0, not the darling of the Tea Party right.

Trump, on the other hand, has no principles, and his highest loyalty is to himself. He only cares about what's good for Trump; what feeds his ego and gives him a sense of his own importance. Had McCain won, I'd have been disappointed, but McCain wasn't someone manifestly unfit for the presidency whose election heralded the incipient death of American democracy as we've known it, and McCain wouldn't have gotten us into a war with China over intemperate words on Twitter (as I half expect Trump probably will).

This was a mercy killing, and the catalyst for it was an act of treason committed by an FBI director and a Senate Majority with a superiority complex and a very partisan agenda. Not to mention it had a lot of foreign influence and a candidate who egged on said foreign influence to hack the vote repeatedly. And they did. And no one was punished. With a vacant SCOTUS seat the court could have swayed left and now it's going to take a far far right turn and could get way worse than it was before.

NONE of them felt that way when Obama was elected. Their attitude was that Obama won fair and square. Granted, we all live in a blue state (Illinois). It's possible to be conservative and not buy into nonsense that Obama hates cops, etc.

The people who overreacted to Obama's election come from the "Patriot" faction of the right, and those people are SCARY. They may deny they are racist, but the memes they post on Facebook are often generated by the far right. We need to stop normalizing these people by referring to them as mere "conservatives". They're hysterics and racists and they are cowards who SAY NOTHING when far right racists post their racist garbage on Trump groups on Facebook. They are enablers of the far right. Traditionally, enabling the far right makes you a traitor and enemy of the government. Now the anti-government racist right has THEIR GUY in the WH.
