The bottom line is you get sick you die unless you have the money for treatment. Carl Higbie founder of George Washington Leadership Foundation pretty much maintained that position with Thom Hartmann. He also believes the Veterans Health Care system should be abolished because it is too socialist. That you should not be required to pay for anyone else health care.
His position is that even food, shelter and clothing are NOT a right and that they are a privilege. The GOP represents the extreme position that the government should not provide anything to the citizens except homeland security and the military. So everything else must be covered by charity or the churches. THEY ARE DETERMINED IN THAT VIEW.

(3,040 posts)When they lose their Healthcare, social security, medicare, Medicaid, etc. They will just blame Obama for it and that will be that. I have a feeling that Obama will be the conservative scapegoat for at least the next eight years.

Else You Are Mad
(3,040 posts)Ever since the right wing radio, 'news' sites and Fox has brainwashed conservatives
into thinking that anyone that disagrees with their world view must be a liberal liar, it is near impossible to counter it.
For example, over Thanksgiving I was talking with a tea party uncle about how obamacare and/or socialized medicine is actually helpful. He admitted to me that while I may know much more about the subject than he does, I am a liberal so I am trying to indoctrinate him with propaganda. That's when I realized some people are just not going to change.

That's the basis of the whole "can't trust the gov't or the Liberal Media" bullshit line.
Like Trump said, "I'm the only one who can fix it."
gratuitous
(82,849 posts)That is, repeat yourself. Say it over and over, even when shocked conservatives ask with dismay if you're talking about them when you say, "Repealing the Affordable Care Act will be a cruel and heartless measure that will result in unnecessary suffering for millions and wholly preventable death for thousands." Say it every day. Say it even when you think everyone's "got it." Say it one more time. Say it when you're sick of hearing it.
Because Fox and the howler monkey brigades never tire of repeating their falsehoods, even after they've been thoroughly debunked. You'll think some issue has finally been laid to rest, and then suddenly you'll hear someone mention "trickle down" or something equally stupid with approval.
Keep saying it: The Republican health care plan is cruel and heartless. If you support it, you are a cruel and heartless person.

(3,040 posts)That are on welfare and/or food stamps themselves don't realize they will be hurt as well. There is a larger number of poor, white conservatives in the South on social welfare programs than Blacks and Hispanics.

(35,408 posts)That program benefits the White working class more than anyone else, but they want to repeal it because Black people also benefit.
