Putin has no other way to prop up his economy other than oil and the war machine. So this is perfect for Puttie and the Donald is doing exactly as he is told.

1. There's somebody who thinks this better protects America

Problem with nukes is that fallout and damage is indescriminate. So big nukes are out. But some argue for "smart" nukes or small nukes. Problem there is securing them. The more of something there is the more likely it falls into the wrong hands.

2. It's all about the money

Nukes cost a lot to build and maintain. For a defense contractor this is pure gravy. So why not? We might even just spin out wheels and never produce anything for $10 billion or more.

The cynic in me says it's all about the money. No matter how you slice it, nukes are nukes. You can't use them in an actual battle so what's the point.

His twisted CEO mindset believes this conveys strength and gives a tactical advantage.

Perhaps it's advantageous in business but he's playing with live ammo now.

I'm convinced saner republicans will prevail and impeach him.

Mike Pence will be president. Can't believe I'm typing this but please, dear god, make it so.

The Twenty-Fifth Amendment, fourth paragraph, gives them all the tools they need to overthrow Trump:

4. Whenever the Vice President and a majority of either the principal officers of the executive departments or of such other body as Congress may by law provide, transmit to the President pro tempore of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives their written declaration that the President is unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office, the Vice President shall immediately assume the powers and duties of the office as Acting President.

Thereafter, when the President transmits to the President pro tempore of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives his written declaration that no inability exists, he shall resume the powers and duties of his office unless the Vice President and a majority of either the principal officers of the executive department or of such other body as Congress may by law provide, transmit within four days to the President pro tempore of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives their written declaration that the President is unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office. Thereupon Congress shall decide the issue, assembling within forty eight hours for that purpose if not in session. If the Congress, within twenty one days after receipt of the latter written declaration, or, if Congress is not in session, within twenty one days after Congress is required to assemble, determines by two thirds vote of both Houses that the President is unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office, the Vice President shall continue to discharge the same as Acting President; otherwise, the President shall resume the powers and duties of his office.

The process:
Step 0: Trump attempts to nuke another country because its leaders were mean to him.

Step 1: Mike Pence and a majority of the Cabinet write a letter that says Donald Trump's mental condition makes him unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office. They sign it and make four copies. The first copy goes to the president pro tempore of the Senate. The second to the Speaker of the House. The third goes to the mangled apricot hellbeast, and the fourth is sent to Fox News. They keep the original.

Step 2: Trump goes on Fox News and does this:

Step 2a: Trump then tweets Congress that he is capable of discharging the powers and duties of his office.

Step 3: Congress convenes, declares Trump unfit to be president, and sends him home.

"Several months ago, a foreign policy expert on the international level went to advise Donald Trump. And three times [Trump] asked about the use of nuclear weapons. Three times he asked at one point if we had them why can't we use them," Scarborough said on his "Morning Joe" program.

For the billionaires likely to be in his cabinet, this is about money.

For the former generals, it's about power.

These are people who see the world in green or in black and white. No nuance. No common good. No better angels of our nature.
