No.On Thursday morning, the Trump transition team announced that former campaign manager Kellyanne Conway will serve as counselor to the president. In that role shell be the highest ranking woman in the White House.
A statement released by the transition team announcing the move is boilerplate I am pleased that she will be part of my senior team in the West Wing, Trump is quoted as saying until it gets around to discussing Conways role in Trumps victory, where it makes the claim that Trump shattered the glass ceiling for women.
President-elect Trumps victory on November 8th also shattered the glass ceiling for women. Conway is the first female campaign manager of either major party to win a presidential general election.
While its true that Conway is the first woman campaign manager to preside over a presidential victory, the statement overlooks that Al Gores 2000 campaign was managed by Donna Brazile. Like Hillary Clinton, Gore won the popular vote but lost in the Electoral College, after the Supreme Court shutdown a Florida recount.
The statement also overlooks the obvious fact that Clinton this year became the first woman nominated as a major partys presidential nominee and his victory denied her the chance to shatter the highest, hardest glass ceiling. Trump scolded her during the campaign for mentioning the historic nature of her candidacy, accusing her of playing the womens card.

(9,350 posts)People on the right have been pushing that talking point for months. Someone on twitter tried making the same point shortly after the election. I assume someone told Trump to hire her in that position in order to make that statement. I think they are trying to put a pretty face, or numerous pretty faces on his mistreatment of women. Kellyanne Conway might be the reason a woman is not his Press Secretary. It was reported that Trump was considering women for the Press Secretary job based on their looks and the fact that it could protect him from calls of misbehavior toward women. Maybe people told him hiring Kellyanne Conway would allow him to say he was hiring a woman, but he did not have to make her the face of his administration.

(4,835 posts)Does that mean he's gonna try to appoint her to the Supreme Court?
Remember Bush? He tried to appoint his family's counselor to the Supreme Court.

(58,724 posts)If you are thinking of Harriet Myers, she was the former. In that position, the job is to advise the president on legal issues. The latter position is a more general high ranking assistant to the president.

(4,835 posts)But thanks for pointing out how ridiculous it would be. That's actually what I was getting at.
Sadly, the members of my family that are Trump supporters would not get it.
Like this:
She was a counselor, isn't that what lawyers are? Aren't Supreme Court justices lawyers?
However, my wife (who happens to be an attorney) thinks a mental health counselor might be the more appropriate type of counselor for him to keep close.
It definitely would be ridiculous, and the Trump supporters would not get it. As long as Trump does/says it, they are on board.

(33,956 posts)not much of a shattered ceiling.
There have always been self-hating women who have settled for sleeping their way to the top and attaining undeserved accolades in so doing.
Con-way is no exception.
However, this is an insult to women who deserve to be promoted and ascend the power ladder because they studied hard and worked hard and didn't allow themselves to be sexually and professionally subjugated to do so. There is a difference.
