General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsWe need to contact our congress people NOW about what happens Jan. 6!
I was very involved in DU for several years starting in 2004 after the election was stolen, so I am not new! I recognize many of you.
This was a very hot topic on DU in December 2004, with thousands contacting their congress people about it, but I have not seen it discussed this year: On January 6, Congress meets to count the electoral votes. This is the final step before the inauguration. While usually just a formality, an objection can be lodged in writing by two members of Congress: one each from the House and the Senate. This happened in 2005:
"It was Democratic Representative Stephanie Tubbs Jones, from Ohio, and Democratic Senator Barbara Boxer, from California, who actually challenged, on January 6, 2005, the legitimacy of the Ohio electoral vote. This forced the two houses of Congress to spend the afternoon debating voting problems in Ohio and the United States. Many House Democrats competently debated the voting problems, and thirty-one House Democrats voted for the challenge to the presidential election. Ten Senate Democrats spoke in favor of having the debate, despite allowing only Barbara Boxer to vote for the challenge. http://freepress.org/departments/display/19/2005/1095
Its easy to imagine a House member and senator on Jan. 6 laying out the case, in writing, for why the Electoral Colleges vote in favor of Trump should not stand. https://www.buzzfeed.com/chrisgeidner/the-electoral-college-vote-isnt-just-about-the-electoral-col?utm_term=.vbzb7BdeQO#.ldwbEl8PAq
While this will not change election results, it still has value: it would mean that both the House and Senate would withdraw to their respective chambers to debate the merits of any objections. Both would be televised on C-Span and would get a great deal of press coverage. It gives our congress people a chance to very publicly address the issues of this highly fraudulent election and why Trump should not be president: http://freepress.org/departments/display/19/2005/1095
Please contact your senators and representatives and ask them to object to the Electoral College vote on January 6. They are out for the holidays now, so that means email or faxes and then phone calls when they are back; I think January 2nd.
Is anyone else working on this? Anyone have contact with the organizers of the Electoral Vote challenge?

(9,524 posts)That would be an unrealistic expectation. But a televised debate in congress still has value. Those of us who saw it on C-Span in 2005 remember well. Check out the links in the post for more information about why it's still worthwhile.
