Will Don don the skinhead look to match his agenda?

Donald promises America a new 'do' if it makes him president: Trump reveals he will ditch his infamous hair style in the White House - because comb-over takes too much time to maintain

Promises, promises...

Donald Trump may be standing firm in his political convictions as he attempts to secure the Republican nomination for president, but there is one thing he has revealed he will be changing if elected - his hair. Trump appeared at a dinner in Iowa on Saturday night and told those in attendance that his carefully crafted coif would be no more if he lands in the White House. His reasoning for the big change is that the look simply takes too long.

The man is turning out to be a giant bore and utterly predictable. Too bad he's so dangerous too.

Really? Does he think we're all enthralled by his personal bodily ablutions? He seems to believe we want a blow by blow account of every time he wipes his ass or picks his nose.

... the majority of skinheads are non-racists. I'm unsure if you are implying "skinhead look" to mean racist agenda or not. If so, it's an important distinction to make. My skinhead friends were some of the most vociferous anti-racist activists you could find. They came from all walks of life, different ethnicities, religions, creeds, etc. Skinheads and their sub-culture descend from the Rude Boy sub-culture from the West Indies who grew up in the working class neighborhoods of London and listened to Ska and Rock-steady music. Real skinheads refer to the racist/white power/Nazis as Boneheads.

Just thought I'd clarify.

I wasn't aware of the nuances of the situation, nor the existence of the "bonehead" term. To me, a bonehead is someone who can't think things through. Not sure that is characteristic of racists... the most dangerous ones do think things through and are fine with the genocide that is the logical conclusion of their racist ideology.

I'd also concede that a close cropped or shaved head on a young white male does not necessarily indicate a racist bent. It may be a stereotype but from my personal experience it does seem more likely. The exception that defeats the rule is Trump's flowing hair style, as ridiculous in the other extreme as one can get.

Perhaps we can agree that any hair do that Trump adopts will be that of a stupid idiotic racist bigot.

There is at least one group, SHARP - Skinheads Against Racial Prejudice - who are explicitly anti-racist. They just like the lifestyle; the haircut, the clothes, the boots, but don't want to be associated with white supramacists.

I had a patient once who was an active member of SHARP.

... I guess they needed a way to differentiate themselves, but the term definitely applies even if they were intelligent in other ways. The whole sub-culture had factions that were identified by the clothing, color of suspenders and shoe laces (Braces and Laces) and flight jackets or Fred Perrys, not unlike other gangs like the Crips and the Bloods.

Good times, good memories.

... and RASH (Red and Anarchist Skinheads), as well as the Trad (Traditional Skinheads) that may have no political bent at all.

I once had a bunch of WAR (White Aryan Resistance) and Hammer Boneheads outside my house, on the roof, everywhere (I'm Jewish). Was just me and my girlfriend and her friend. Made a phones call (this was in my late teens), and had a bunch of SHARP Skinheads that chased them off and saved our assess. Like I said, even though I wasn't a skinhead (I was more or less an anarchist Punk), it was good to have them as friends and be part of the scene.

Not sure what it's like today - I think they're still around - but the late 80s and early 90s were pretty active. They had been around since the 60s with Mod, Rude Boy, and proto-Punk scenes who all listened to the same music (each other's) like Rocksteady, Ska, Raggae, proto-Punk/Punk (which later became hardcore, Oi!, surf-Punk, street-Punk, Rock-a-Billy, Punk-a-Billy, Psycho-Billy and Industrial).

One of my memories, would really make people question their own sanity if they saw it for themselves, was of a bunch of stereo-typical-looking skinheads (Fred Perrys, bomber jackets, Doc Martins, shaved heads) blasting NWA (rap) and moshing (slam-dancing). Truly a conflicting and mind-bending sight to behold to the uninitiated.

Great times.

I'm blue collar, graduated HS in the early '80's. I liked the early groups, like the Pistols and Clash, Pogues, who didn't like the name "punk". But I never went forward with the kaliedescope of different musical movements that seems like an important part of the different social movement types.

I remember the mods vs rockers, and read Lydon's Rotten. Saw him perform here a few years ago. Never saw the Mescaleros but always liked them. It was always a slam pit to me, the term mosh seemed too new fangled. I remember seeing a Cobain vid that called 1989 "The Year Punk Broke". (I wasn't following his group, or grunge, but thought it was interesting that he saw grunge's success as a vindication of punk.) I love Love and Hole, saw her here before they broke up. I got shut out of a sold out Slits show here, before Ari Up passed. The movie This is England seemed realistic to me, and I liked a lot of the descriptions of culture surrounding the Punks from Alex Cox, though he behaved very bitchily toward Johnny Rotten (probably Alex is incorrectly too much hooked into McLaren and Westwood, who are poisonous toads.)

I was in the Bay area in the late '80's, and read Maximum Rock and Roll there, but looked at the political stuff from the Irish Rocker (web of interconnection) and Look Out It's Lawrence Livermore, so I didn't glean a lot about the different musical movements. I was at the '89 Anarchist convention in S.F. Mission Park, when the authorities harassed it with a military chopper buzzing the park super low. I called the FAA and ratted them out.

I saw Anti Flag here, right after the '08 election. It was a novel experience, was in an ex-church. I went in and looked at the much younger crowd, listened to the music for a while, then went outside and talked to some of the older fans. Mentioned that I'd never been to a punk rock show that was in a church surrounded by cops (there were a ton of them all around the perimeter of Mr. Small's Theater). I wasn't being snotty, just making an observation. They didn't take offense, just blinked.

This area is more industrial hinterlands than cutting edge, music and social movement wise. I worked in a famous hot dog joint here a couple of decades back with the then-leader of a nazi skin group. The guy was a well-connected, middle class, extremely duplicitous fascist, out of town import, not a tough guy, but extremely evil with a happy smiley face put on over it and good social skills. He wound up getting an extensive interview with our city's paper, later. After a couple of months of polite political give and take with him, I told him "you know, you don't seem like a crazy bad guy, you're not nasty, we can talk politely about politics anytime. But if I ever see your people out in the street as a group causing trouble, I'll shoot you. (I didn't own a weapon, but he didn't know that.)" It didn't result in a fight, he wasn't a fighter, but it made an impression, because a few weeks later he started trying to sound me out about what kind of weapons I had. It was just me throwing an inside fast ball, verbal concept wise, because he was crowding the plate with his fake smiley faced friendly fascism.

The violent rhetoric is not meant to be alienating in any way, hope it is not taken as such, F A. Long winded as usual, such a turn off for 99% of fellow D.U. participants, I apologize for that.

Thank you for your amazing post.

There were a lot of timid Nazi skins. Many times we've brawled it out, only to see a few of them at clubs later on trying to back-track on their ideology. Even a tiny few managed to join our side, after some beers and rational talk.

So, in reality, many of the boneheads were mostly talk and looking to fit in. After seeing our alternative, they made the switch. It was the hardcore radicals that were set in their ways. They were mostly losers at life anyway, and racism was their only way to be relevant.

And though I'm pro-peace, I am not a pacifist. I've been in many fights ... I consider them just fights (as in justice). I have no regrets.

When a group of people gets thrown together, they seem to crystalize around 2 or 3 strong personalities, people with forceful opinions. The 'more timid' people see the ones who are definitely sure about their opinions, and crystalize around them. Which is bad when the idea is to get together as a group to victimize one or two people.

So the uncommitted ones saw your people with definite opinions and strong committment to the opposite idea. They needed to see some other forceful opinion to crystalize around, and defected once they did.

I'm pro-peace, too, but won't let the bad guys get away with violent attacks, unopposed. I'm not opposed to pacifists who are willing to stick to their non-violence committment to the end, but I don't think that is effective against the nazis. I try to never be in the wrong, never to be an aggressor committing an offense against someone else.

With that approach, it's possible I'll be outmatched, but I don't feel the added sting of getting beat and feeling like I was the bad guy on top of it. I don't want to start trouble with someone who is apparently weaker than me, because that's cowardly, but I don't mind threatening them if they are trying to victimize someone who they think is weaker. I had a good one with a trumper pre-election like that, where he was threatening a young lady with 2 kids, one was an autistic kid about 10 years old.

Never murder mouth them, never run my mouth about how I'm going to kill them or put them into the hospital, etc., which I find is a standard rightie move. I don't like to make predictions. I say 'It sounds like you want to fight me. Go ahead, take a swing. You better kill me.' It's been quite a while since any one of them has taken me up on the invite, they back away gibbering, figure out some reason why they can't do it, etc. They have to think they won before they throw the first punch. Of course with a gang of nazis out together looking for trouble, they already think they won when they come upon a numerically far-inferior opponent.
