Donald Trump could be impeached over 'Muslim ban', says Texas congressman

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/donald-trump-executive-order-muslim-ban-refugees-immigration-visas-impeachment-congress-senate-a7556351.html

A Texas congressman has joined calls for Donald Trump to be impeached for allegedly “exceeding his constitutional authority” with a temporary ban on refugees and immigration from seven Muslim-majority countries.

Joaquin Castro, a Democrat serving in the House of Representatives questioned whether the new President had instructed the US Customs and Border Protection agency (CBP) to disregard court orders against his executive order.

“If Pres. Trump ordered CBP to ignore a judicial order he should be censured as a warning. If he does it again Congress should remove him,” Mr Castro wrote on Twitter.

“I have tremendous respect for the presidency but our Republic cannot tolerate a President who ignores direct judicial orders.#checksbalances”

(end snip)

Someone told them it was ok to keep detaining, deporting, and forcing people to sign away their green cards. General Kelly, who was supposed to be a reasonable man, denies it. Everybody denies it. Somebody did it. They didn't do it on their own. It happened at more than one airport and more than one court order.

I think we must accept the fact he is there for four more years and deal with it. He's already committed many crimes and nothing has ever happened to him. the family fortune was based in a large part on defrauding the government and the old man got off Scot free. He knows laws don't apply to the rich and powerful.
What we need to do at this point is organize for the 2016 elections and take back the house. The election is less than 2 years out and we need to brand ever Republican, no matter how nice and moderate with the Trump label. The time for political niceness is over. It's time for scorched earth politics and some new faces on the political scene. There are 3 possible districts in my state and if we could swing one or two it would make difference.

the Majority in the Senate and House. They will soon have the Supreme court...will the Republicans impeach their President? Doubtful, unless they would prefer a Mike Pence Presidency and why make themselves look bad? because they won't...

You're right, it's sublimely unlikely. But we still need to shout it that this guy needs to go. Otherwise, it normalizes the abnormal.

not a reliable vote for the republicans. He has upheld Roe V Wade, and I doubt he will change his views on that, and other issues too. In fact he will be the most important justice on the SC, and he is well aware of that importance.

Even Roberts is not a reliable vote for the republicans. Roberts actually saved the ACA.

That does not mean we are not in serious trouble, but it also means that the SC is NOT necessarily a lot cause, but it is fragile

of how we could do this or that, or if only the public knew what Congress knew about the Russian involvement in the election, or trump's involvement or conflicts of interest how we would be outraged.

Well, we are outraged about trump right now, so if you have something on this deplorable piece of garbage then what are you waiting for?

while I doubt it will happen over this, just the fact that they're stating it is far better than Pelosi in 2006 saying that impeachment was off the table. I stopped donating to Democrats for a while after that solely for that reason - even if you don't impeach him, it should not be taken off the table.

Keep in mind that it will take at least 24 House Republicans to go along with a unanimous Democratic bloc in order to impeach. I don't know where those 24 principled Republicans are.

It would then take at least 16 Senate Republicans to vote with a unanimous Democratic/Independent bloc to convict and oust Twitler. And where are those 16 principles principled Republicans?

Trump's gonna have to do something so horrific that those 40 Republicans say to themselves, "We're better off politically without this führer-in-training than with him," principles be damned. And that means their base will also have to agree.

I'm not optimistic.

This is a constitutional crisis. If the President is directing noncompliance with valid court orders he needs removed immediately as he violates his paramount constitutional duty to take care that the laws are faithfully executed. Our constitutional system, which was deliberate crafted to avoid this type of despotic lawlessness, demands it. Ours is a nation of laws not rule by garbled decree from power mad petty tyrants. In the meantime I suggest that courts whose orders are being defied start holding non complying administration officials in contempt. Jail and hefty fines have a way of clarifying constitutional and legal responsibilities.
