"Bluto's right. Psychotic, but absolutely right. We gotta take these bastards. Now we could do it with conventional weapons that could take years and cost millions of lives. No, I think we have to go all out. I think that this situation absolutely requires a really futile and stupid gesture be done on somebody's part".

It's all about "keeping our powder dry" and playing twenty dimensional chess. We must have the driest powder known to man by now. We're cowed by the right. They go "Boo!" and we shriek and pee our pants. Even when we had the majority they still said "Boo!" and we still shrieked and peed our trousers. When they lose, Republicans still strut around like they won. Perception is a big deal.

Perception is what makes voters think that the GOP is the party that gets things done.

It's been reported that CEO's are scared crapless about Trump targeting them for a Twitter rant. Truth be told they're not so much scared of Trump as the potent shitstorm his followers will rain down on them. CEO's bust a gut when a Dem politician calls them out. Why? Because, at worst, his supporters will dash off a terse email or maybe make a firm, but polite phone call. Trumpanzees go for the jugular. All it takes is a single email blast to get them to swarm that company's Facebook page, Twitter account and other social media accounts.

Where's that kind of organization on our side and why can't we generate that kind of fire in people's bellies?

Back in Missouri I watched an elderly woman standing in line, in the rain, to cast her ballot. In fact as I scanned the line it soon occurred that I was the only person younger than 50 there. Thinking that was an aberration, I went back at 5:30 to have a look thinking that maybe some younger folks are now off work and out at the polls. Nope. Still a long, snake like line of elderly and middle aged voters. The age groups that skew conservative.

Why don't we have that kind of commitment in our voters? They can get an elderly lady to stand in the rain to cast a ballot but we can't convince a Twentysomething to take a few minutes and mail in his ballot.

We really have our work cut out for us and it's looking more and more like there has to be serious introspection and deep, meaningful change before we can turn it around. Or we can sit back and let demographics eventually flip the country for us a la California.

this generation hasn't bled, there is no threat of draft, they are too busy on instagram. I hate to paint with a broad brush but in my opinion what doomed us in the election was what is evident on social media, that some folks are given an enormous platform and following, leading with their attractiveness like Tomi Lahren, etc. I think the constituency is chopped up into bits on social media and because so many have such a following they seem to believe they should lead. There is zero motivation to unite going on. Everyone thinks "I am the shit, look at all my followers". They don't understand it is a lie, and that at the ballot box they are only a party of one, like everyone else. Way too much confusion of social media with reality, maybe the election will shake them awake a bit.

Not sure who you are referring to when you say this generation hasn't bled. Yeah, there wasn't a draft, but still lots of young Americans died in those wars.

One thing that TrumpenFuhrer had going on was that he was hip to the fact that a tweet is just about the right amount of verbiage for the average American to digest.

Knowing who they are will give you insight into their strategy and tactics, and allow you to counter more effectively.

Who is your opponent?

only We, the People can turn things around. And from the looks of things, I'd say we're gathering "bigly" momentum. We just have to be relentless. Focus locally. There's only so much we can do in the national political scene, but we CAN make a noticeable difference in local politics and issues that affect us directly.

Don't be discouraged. We're all here at DU to support and encourage each other. To lose faith is the death of us. Agreed? Chin up. We're all in this together.
