Orrin Hatch Ignores The Rules, Advances Key Trump Nominees Despite Democratic Boycott

WASHINGTON ― Senate Finance Committee Chair Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) pushed forward two of President Donald Trump’s Cabinet picks Wednesday morning, advancing their nominations despite a Democratic boycott.

The rules require at least one member of the minority party to be present for the committee to vote on a nominee. But Hatch suspended the rules, allowing him to go around that requirement.

Senate Republicans advanced Rep. Tom Price (R-Ga.), Trump’s nominee to lead the Department of Health and Human Services, and Steve Mnuchin, the pick for treasury secretary, out of committee favorably, on a 14-0 vote. Price and Mnuchin are now cleared to receive a full vote on the Senate floor.

Democrats are opposed to moving forward on the two nominees because they believe the two men misled the public and held back vital information about their backgrounds. The decision to boycott committee votes spread Wednesday morning, when Democrats on the Environment and Public Works Committee also skipped the vote on Oklahoma Attorney General Scott Pruitt to be head of the Environmental Protection Agency.

Too many think it can't happen here. CNN reported on a Reuters poll this morning that 49% polled were OK with the travel ban.

And now they have their boot on our neck. Face it, the dems got outplayed. The GOP has been playing the long game while the dems have been playing nice. Too many think a fascist dictatorship can't happen here, but it is happening before our very eyes & no one with any authority is doing anything about it. Soon protesting will be against the law. Already in Denver you must have a permit to exercise your "free speech." But according to the highest court of the land, money is speech.

We are so very fucked & most people are going about like it's business as usual.

There has not been one decent nominee by Trump for his administration. I thought that Niki might be ok but she showed here evil creeds faster than lightening at the UN.

Can any of you out there name a decent nomination for anything?

The media is hammering Dems for obstructionism...you know, the same obstructionism the Republicans excercised for 8 full years with nary a peep from the media.

It's just a matter of time before Trump is no longer called President by our media, but instead referred to as Our Great Leader.

The people lost, the country is lost.
