Boy, Does Microsoft Ever Want Me to Use Edge!

I'm in my third day on the new Windows 10 machine. The first thing I did, of course, was to download Chrome and sync to it to get all my bookmarks, remembered passwords, ect. back. I even made it my default browser. Windows 10 seems to think I did that accidentally, because it keeps popping up boxes telling me that Edge is the best browser for Windows 10. I politely disagree, but Microsoft is having none of it. I haven't figured out yet how to tell Windows that no, I don't want to use Edge. I like Chrome, and Edge won't import all that stuff I've added to Chrome over the years.

At least, I don't have Cortana bugging me all the time. I put her in her little closet and locked the door. Classic Shell also keeps her from interrupting me, too. Boy, was she needy. Always wanting to chat when I'm working. I'm pretty sure she's really Veruca Salt incognito. She wants it now!

Windows 10 is OK, once you install Classic Shell to make the Start menu and "File" Explorer work without assuming you are 12 years old. Some things are slightly different, but the right mouse button usually shows you the options you need. My new monitor is way bigger than the old one, too, and my old eyes were having trouble finding the mouse pointer. No problem. The EXTRA LARGE pointer is just fine and works well, even for 71 year old computer whizzes.

Then, there are other odd changes. For example, in Vista, you used to be able to right click and drag items in the Start Menu over and drop them on the desktop as an icon. Now, you have to right click on things and choose "Pin to desktop." What? I don't use Pinterest. But, I'm a pretty fart smeller, so I can figure out how Windows 10 thinks and work around those silly changes.

But Edge? I don't think so. It's too limited and boring, thanks. Give me my Chrome, Microsoft, or study it and make your freaking browser more friendly. There's a good software giant...

so Edge hasn't been all that intrusive unless some other program's help page insists on it. I really don't know if it's gotten down home dumbass friendly, I just know the earlier incarnations had Swiss cheese security and were a hacker's wet dream.

I also ball gagged Cortana first thing. Just leave me alone.

Remember, I'm the irritable old broad who dumped MS Word because I couldn't stand that damned paperclip. Word Pad does everything I need it to without the cutesy pie crap that insisted on reformatting my pages and generating junk.

They put any more moron friendly shit into their OS, I'll go back to Ubuntu.

Kept it as the default because I use four other browsers and I can always open a link in one of the others it Edge craps out.

One neat thing about Edge is the way it downloads. No extra windows or weird popups-- it just shows me the progress and asks me if I want to run the download or park it somewhere.

I used to use Chrome, but got a little antsy about just how much of my life I wanted Google to know about. Edge, Firefox, Waterfox, Opera and Pale Moon are more browsers than I really need for now.

We have to use IE 11 because Edge will not work when we have our Cisco VPN established.

You can change the 'default browser' to IE 11, or Firefox, Chrome, etc.
And then you can change the 'default search engine' to Google, Yahoo, or whatever you want as well.

But you can't change the stupid 'Windows Search' to anything other than Edge with Bing as the search engine
