It's not an inherent talent. You're a conduit for god via holy ghost communicating holy messages which no one can understand but which your fellow religionists love to witness. If the spirit descended on you in school or elsewhere, you would speak in tongues there, but the deity amazingly prefers to manifest in church--you'd think the god of "prosperity christians" like DT would jump at the chance to speak to business leaders, but apparently not.

The incoherent babbling is as made up as the rapture.

The gift of tongues was given to the Apostles at Penecost and was the ability to speak and understand multiple languages.

Pope John Paul II spoke 19 languages, you would say he had the gift of tongues.

Catholics of almost all rites and Orthodox do not accept the nonsensical babbling those who do it call the language of angels. There is a Charismatics Catholic movement made up mostly of ex Protestants who do the babbling, but it is not mainstream.

It's a hustle that's being pulled.

My 6 year old is starting to see through the bs. Too bad more can't do the same.

Since it is essentially an act put on by those needing individual attention within their church, to do it outside of the church's safe zone would be akin to saying, I'm really a fucking dumb ass.

This was back when Dan Patrick was an AM hate radio owner in Houston, years ago. He got a little over-enthusiastic while talking about Mel Gibson's Jesus movie, and broke into a minute or so of on-air ululations about it. It was almost as entertaining as his on-air shrieking session over Janet Jackson's "wardrobe malfunction" at the Super Bowl.

Ol' Dan (who admits to a history of mental problems) is now busy trying to ruin the TX economy with a bathroom bill that nobody seems to be in favor of, other than himself. The dumbfuck republicans in the state will likely put him in the governor's office at some point---where he'll make Rick Perry look like Churchill, by comparison.

I went to church with a friend back when I was young and dumb and full of you know what. Anyways I asked my dad if it would be OK and he said sure son but I'll tell you right now you won't like it. I went anyway and when my friends mom started talking in tongues and the preacher started pounding on the pulpit with the heal of his shoe I couldn't get out of there fast enough. You see we, me too, at the time, were baptist, the good ole southern kind LOL

Brings back memories
