They are standing in the middle of the road and a tractor-trailer is barreling down upon them. But, they are not worried. The driver has promised to make a right turn and, anyway, his brakes are very good.
They have faith that they will be protected as everyone else is run over. Everybody is just a little ol' snowflake. The driver is only doing what he said he would do.
After all, they voted for him. He can't be wrong.
It's no big deal if everybody in the world hates us. They are invulnerable. They cannot lose because God is on their side.
They are free-falling from the top of Trump Tower and as they pass the 14th floor, they say, "So far, so good!"

(11,996 posts)I think any opposition to their pick makes them MORE pissed and more stubborn.
Doesn't matter how justified the complaint, how righteous the protest, how proper the ruling, it just gets them angry and more resolute.
As someone posted yesterday - we may have to look elsewhere for more support. At least some of the repubs in Cogress are starting to come around - they need votes next time around.

(2,120 posts)WE are the good guys and Trump is the evil asshole from that film. The toadies and lickspittles surrounding that guy are the deplorable scumfuckers.

(2,768 posts)They won't acknowledge what's going on at all. Every discussion deteriorates into not wanting to be lumped into the White Nationalists. If they aren't White Nationalists why are they so concerned about the label? They seem to be perfectly ok with labeling everybody else based on the actions of a few.

The way to reach these particular folks is with calm, non-penis threatening discussion.
Go visit Street Epistemology on facebook for effective tactics. It's focused on god-belief and religion but the principles are the same
While it's fun to kick their angrier members ass in social media exchanges, epidemiological inquiry is way more successful.

(9,350 posts)No, they do not even believe "they are standing in the middle of the road with a tractor-trailer barreling down upon them". The driver did not tell them he would make a right turn because he is not even driving the car. Even when Trump tells them he is driving a tractor-trailer straight at them, they say no, it is only the liberal media lying to them.
Yesterday, I saw a tweet in which a Trump supporter was claiming that Trump was only reforming Dodd-Frank not getting rid of the law. He was attempting to use a side-by-side picture of Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton that pointed out that Clinton got more money from Hedge Fund Managers to prove his point that Trump was actually taking on Wall Street. When I saw the post I thought, but Trump just told everybody that he was going to gut Dodd-Frank. Even when Trump tells them what he is going to do they claim it is just a liberal media lie.
