Trump is targeting up to 8 million people for deportation

http://www.latimes.com/politics/la-na-pol-trump-deportations-20170204-story.html

When President Trump ordered a vast overhaul of immigration law enforcement during his first week in office, he stripped away most restrictions on who should be deported, opening the door for roundups and detentions on a scale not seen in nearly a decade.

Up to 8 million people in the country illegally could be considered priorities for deportation, according to calculations by the Los Angeles Times. They were based on interviews with experts who studied the order and two internal documents that signal immigration officials are taking an expansive view of Trump’s directive.

Far from targeting only “bad hombres,” as Trump has said repeatedly, his new order allows immigration agents to detain nearly anyone they come in contact with who has crossed the border illegally. People could be booked into custody for using food stamps or if their child receives free school lunches.

(snip)

In addition, Homeland Security officials have circulated an 11-page memo on how to enact Trump’s order. Among other steps, that document suggests expanding the use of a deportation process that bypasses immigration courts and allows officers to expel foreigners immediately upon capture. The process, called expedited removal, now applies only to immigrants who are arrested within 100 miles of the border and within two weeks of illegally crossing over and who don’t express a credible fear of persecution back home. The program could be expanded farther from the border and target those who have lived in the U.S. illegally for up to two years.

(end snip)

These people (trumpinistas) are not human. This is not normal.

and what makes him think that countries will accept people back? Do you actually think that Mexico will take several million people and pay for feeding them and transporting them south? No people would just pile up in camps around the border. And won't that look great for international press and the reputation of the USA?

And there aren't enough planes and boats to take millions of people back to China, India, Pakistan, etc.

You think there are lots of protests now? Rounding up and deporting millions of people will bring Trump down. There will be strikes, 24x7 protests everywhere. There might even be armed resistance. Even the mentally insane can buy a gun now.

Five immigration myths debunked: http://money.cnn.com/2014/11/20/news/economy/immigration-myths/

I don't want parents withdrawing their children from school lunch programs because they're afraid of deportation. The last few schools I've worked at had free lunch and breakfast for all (no registration). I don't know if that's so for most schools.

7. WH has been drafting EO to also deport legal immigrants receiving public assistance

Undocumented immigrants don't qualify or receive food stamps and other public assistance requiring registration.

For a while now many Repubs have wanted to restrict school lunch programs to only legal residents with documentation.

But just this week reports came out about WH drafting EO so even legal residents could be deported for using public assistance (even if they meet eligibility criteria and despite fact they pay income, sales and property taxes.) Surely such a drastic order cannot be carried out as it seems unconstitutional. Esp since I would think the eligibility rules of govt programs must be changed by Congress not by EO.

This WH is making me mentally and physically ill

I know quite a few former students who are worried sick about what will happen to their families.

Good luck finding enough farmhands to harvest your produce or employees to work in the meat packing facilities.

Time to break new ground on that garden expansion and order another 25 chicks this spring.

with an average of about 30 thousand is detention daily, at a daily cost of about $150 each

Assuming we deport 8 million in the next 8 years, that would probably increase our daily detention population by about 50 thousand:

8 years x 365 da/year x $150/detainee-da x 50000 detainees

works out to something like $22 billion in extra detention costs alone
