Robert Reich on gop and dt

Robert Reich
14 mins ·

As I said yesterday, Trump’s defense of Putin and assertion of moral equivalency between Putin’s regime and the U.S. (in an interview aired today) has caused a firestorm among congressional Republicans.

1. In a CNN interview this morning, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell rejected any comparison between the two nations, citing Russia’s annexation of Crimea, its invasion of Ukraine and its interference in the U.S. presidential election. “I don’t think there’s any equivalency between the way that the Russians conduct themselves and the way the United States does.

2. Sen. Marco Rubio tweeted: “When has a Democratic political activists been poisoned by the GOP, or vice versa? We are not the same as #Putin.”

3. On an ABC interview this morning, Republican Sen. Ben Sasse blasted Trump’s remarks and called on him to “show moral leadership about this issue.”

Watch this unfold. The closer Trump moves toward Putin, the more likely congressional Republicans conclude Pence is a better bet than Trump. Then when Trump oversteps the law in a big way (it’s coming, I assure you), they’ll be ready to impeach.

What do you think?

and undemocratic agenda that they all want in place without getting their hands dirty.

When all of that is accomplished, they will drop him like a plutonium potato.

the importance of DT's comment being made on Fox News. He was speaking directy to rep base voters. That means republican poliicians now on the defensive because those voters listen only to trump now. We'll see how it unfolds. Imagine when trump starts pushing for lifting sanctions....

5. it takes but a word to turn Trump into an enemy

Once he identifies his enemy he can't shut up about how bad they are, reaming them on social media and tv. This will give Congress its pretext in short order, once they all hate Trump. I give it about 10 days. Then we will see who has the bigger dick. Oops, I meant political power.

6. Okay -- but keep in mnind that Pence is probably far worse than Trump.

We gotta get him too! Preferably first, like Agnew/Nixon. Pence is an evil person -- Trump is just a scam artist with some deplorable traits and behaviors. Pence actually believes that he's a principal, if not THE, leader of a religious crusade that is approaching the last two scenes in the mythological play "Revelations" -- the rapture and then destruction of everyone else.

And he could conceivably have his finger on the button.
