Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsDoes anyone really think the spineless Republicans will impeach this nut?
I really wonder if they have the balls to do it. It really needs to be done, I hate Pence too but I don't think he is crazy. If they do it, will we see a civil war? There are a ton of crazy Trump people here in Oklahoma. I think there would be a serious uproar if the were impeached but i think that is the only way for the country to survive.
Truly, will he be impeached at some point before he destroys us?

(115,267 posts)for their future election prospects. The deplorables who make up a significant part of the GOP base still like Trump, but if things start to go to hell for them - the jobs he promised don't appear; a trade war damages the farm and blue-collar economy; the ACA is repealed without a replacement, for example - the deplorables could turn on him and then the spineless GOP would feel safe in unloading him.

(365 posts)The damage to REPUBLITRAITORS would be catacylismic. I think they will contrive some bullshit health reason ie. dRumpf's penis has grown too large to sit behind desk in Oval Office or maybe dRumpf has been struck by lightning and his brain function has accelerated akin to John Travolta's in movie Phenomena which leads to his being too smart to be potus...nothing would shock me at the lengths the maggots will go to protect their baby emperor and the dirty base. But at some point, he will drag them down with him and they will have to scrape him off.

(2,897 posts)Impeaching/removing him would be a way of shifting the blame and keeping him from the top of the ticket.
I think the real question is will someone break ranks and primary him in 2020.

(5,491 posts)Let's face it. While impeachment can be relatively easy, removal from office is unprecedented. I wouldn't be surprised if he resigned at some point, though. Right now this is new and fun for him. At some point it'll get old. And lonely. He'll resign to save the family business or something like that.

That being said, I doubt he will be in office at the end of 2017. My best guess is that he will die in office.

(63,083 posts)If he doesn't force the point in the interim, they'll either impeach him in the run-up to the 2018 midterms or before campaign 2020 begins. Either way, they'll paint themselves as the party of responsibility willing to unseat one of their own for the good of the country, and they'll all sail into re-election thanks to the fawning admiration heaped on the by a perennial uncritical media.
They'll cast Pence as the voice of reason, steadfast and ideally suited for the office of president, and they'll paint him that way again in 2024.
Until then, though, they'll use him to push through every crazy legislative notion that can be broadly aligned with their overall goals. That way, once he's out, they can roll back the most batshit crazy elements of Trump's lunatic administration while having significantly advanced the agenda as a whole.

Then it gets serious. Until then, he is safe -- and he knows it.
