Macy's is under pressure to drop Ivanka Trump

As a movement to boycott businesses that do business with the Trump family heats up, Macy's is under pressure to dump Ivanka Trump's fashion brand.

With Nordstrom announcing on Thursday that it had decided to stop selling Ivanka Trump's brand, reportedly due to declining sales, customers have taken to Macy's social media pages to demand the retailer do the same.

"Nordstrom dumped Trump, please follow suit," reads one of many similar comments on Macy's Facebook page. "I would never put plastic Ivanka Trump boots on my little daughter."

One customer claimed she was told by a customer service representative that the company is in the process of dropping Ivanka's apparel and shoe lines. Macy's didn't immediately respond to Business Insider's request for comment.

Her stuff didn't sell all that well, it's too dowdy for the age group that can pull off the ultra short skirt and ultra high heel look and the middle aged matrons who usually buy it in an attempt to hold onto lost youth can't afford it these days.

and it's all far too dowdy for anyone under 30 to wear unless they were born middle aged.

I accidentally tore the price tag in half. Next step for her stuff will be Goodwill, and then a slow boat to China, where rags get recycled into many things. Like maybe my next toilet brush.

they'll go away naturally. i would never buy anything ivanka or trump or stay in one of their places. it's bad enough that my tax dollars are now going to enrich them. in fact it makes me feel like going tax exempt, which would probably get the IRS after my ass so fast my head would spin.

Macy’s, the department store chain, is ending its relationship with Mr. Trump and phasing out his line of suits, shirts and ties after remarks he made about Mexican immigrants. During his presidential announcement earlier this month he called them “killers” and “rapists” while discussing the need for tougher border control.

“We do not believe the disparaging characterizations portray an accurate picture of the many Mexicans, Mexican Americans and Latinos who have made so many valuable contributions to the success of our nation,” Macy’s said in a statement. “In light of statements made by Donald Trump, which are inconsistent with Macy’s values, we have decided to discontinue our business relationship with Mr. Trump and will phase-out the Trump menswear collection, which has been sold at Macy’s since 2004.

I expect Ivanka will be going too.

in malls across the country. I notice their staff is getting very thinned out here and there are few people at the cash desks in their stores. Their market share has disappeared, busted back to working class by declining purchasing power as wages have failed to track productivity increases.

a Canadian company. Can't be worse than Macy's is now. Honestly, I despise Macy's and shop there very infrequently. They took our beautiful Marshall Field's and turned it into pretty much of a cheesy mess. I really don't think they understood the marketplace in this era of online shopping and discount malls. You have to give people more to shop at a department store than a bunch of mid-line brands all jumbled together on racks. People can get that other places. It has to be an experience—in presentation, decor, service, and style—you can't get elsewhere, and Macy's failed to recognize that entirely.

I really miss the idea of the department store. I miss that you could buy a pair of stockings or some makeup, have lunch in the tea room, and feel like a Rockefeller, even if you spent very little in the end.
