The Ultimate Trial Balloon

Donald Trump is proving to be the ultimate trial balloon for the GOP. Through his out-of-control idiocy, they are learning valuable lessons – as in just how far they can go before the populace fights back.

They now know that overturning Obamacare is not popular among their own “base”, and will lose them votes if this tack is pursued.

They also know that a “Muslim ban” brings out the protestors in numbers too big for the MSM to ignore – resulting in very negative publicity for the GOP.

They now also know that the courts will not roll over and play dead just because Trump wants them to. There’s pushback, even from Republican-appointed judges.

These are “teaching moments” for the GOP – facts that will be useful to Pence when Trump starts doing irreparable damage to the Republican “brand” and is replaced with his understudy, who is now being schooled on just how far he can go without crossing the line.

That’s what makes calling your reps, participating in protests, signing petitions so important. Let the Republicans KNOW what you, as a voter, WON’T stand for. It decreases their options for promoting things they are terrified will cost them votes in the mid-terms.

with some canceling them altogether and Tom Cotton (R-dumbass-AR) has closed his offices to constituents. Others are merely hiding in inner offices, refusing to talk to anyone but known lobbyists.

Pressure works if there's enough of it and it keeps up.

We don't get anything, remember, until those old boys are a lot more afraid of us than they are of men in three piece suits.

When, in fact, he's a far-right reactionary.

But in a few months, when Trump realizes this job is way too much work, and resigns....everybody will breath a sigh of relief that Pence is President, and let him do whatever he wants. Pence will govern to the right of G.W. Bush. But because he doesn't act like an overgrown baby while he's doing it, he'll be greeted as a 'moderate' hero, and Congress will let him do anything he wants. No doubt with a lot of Democratic 'bipartisanship.'

among thousands now, appears to be among those getting under Tom Cotton's skin by, you know, trying to meet with him. Cotton put an upper limit of 5 on the number, required an appointment, and cancelled the meeting twice without notice anyway. This is them "meeting" outside instead.

BTW, a quick search for Indivisible groups within 100 miles of just my own conservative zip code turns up 89 now! This IS a movement.
