Fake news for liberals: misinformation starts to lean left under Trump

While stories of police violence at Standing Rock have become commonplace, the account that spread last week was particularly shocking. An article from AlternativeMediaSyndicate.com said officers had burned the camps of indigenous activists fighting the Dakota Access pipeline – and destroyed their tipis.

The piece, which included an image of multiple large tipis engulfed in flames, was shared more than 270,000 times on Facebook. But the photo was from a 2007 HBO film, and a key premise of the story was fake.

The article talks about the rise in fake news during the trump administration. It is propaganda to destroy liberals. Let's question everything. I remember that Standing Rock article floating around here on DU.

and I believed it. Plus, I felt the pain of it. So, fake news victimizes the readers that believe it. (Another aspect of it's harm.)

That is a lot of effort to write these articles and create the website.

8. I did see that story about the burning tipis

here on DU. But, within about 10 minutes I learned that it was not true.
It took no real effort to look around and learn more.
The thing about fake stories from the left, once we find out if they are true or not, we change the way we think about it or spread it. Common sense, intelligence, whatever.
The repubs. don't seem to be able to do this. Once they hear or see something, they just stop questioning it.
To me it is more like the difference between science and religion and how facts are dealt with in those arenas.

I posted, on a FB page I started (not my personal one) the story about the taxpayers cost of Elephant Killer Trump going on a business trip. When I first posted the story, it contained information about the hotel the SS stayed at was a tRump hotel and I mentioned that in my comment. Later, the story was amended to state that while the hotel was named tRump, it was not owned by the family.
I changed my post accordingly.

Question , ascertain, use common sense, verify.

Most (or all) of the first few pages of news items on the alternative media syndicate web site are at least on a par for accuracy with what is published in The Guardian.
