but now it seems all he will do is create a fictitious event and blame the "dishonest media" for not reporting it.

snip:
President Donald Trump on Monday accused the media of covering up terrorist attacks in Europe.
Trump said that terrorism had gotten so bad that its not even being reported. And in many cases the very, very dishonest press doesnt want to report it.
Snip ends.
Kelly Ann Con Man's comment on Bowling Green was trial balloon that didn't work. They will refine it.

(10,252 posts)They don't do nuance very well. Kellyanne could have deflated the uproar over her BG comment by simply apologizing for mis-speaking. As in, "Gee I'm sorry. Please accept my apologies for mis-speaking about an attack at BG University. I got it all wrong. I'm sorry and promise to do a better job of being sure of my info in the future."
Now how hard was that? Apparently harder than climbing Mt Everest. RWers don't do confession, remorse, embarrassment, shame, apologies so well.
Rachel Maddow apologizes all the time, on air, whenever she learns that she has mis-spoken. So do a lot of other real journalists.

(3,569 posts)Protests. Black bloc people. All there to throw Molotov cocktails, break windows and violence in order to discredit the protests.
The "Reichstag" incident is down the line. Once every other attempt to control people is spent, then bring out the big guns. Never play your ace to open.

(3,569 posts)A bunch of terrorists hijacking planes, controlled by religious ideology, but rather, an inside job, a "Reichstag incident".
I can go there surely but when they played that card, it was the only card they had to play. The Florida voting thing was about to boil over, protests were breaking out, etc.

(8,692 posts)It doesn't matter if it was mihop, lihop, or what it actually seemed to be. It was, effectively used as a Reighstag event by the bush administration to further their goals and agendas.

(3,569 posts)You need Govt complicity. Without it, then it is an actual attack. Yes they both work the same way, and some of the goals are achieved, agendas realized because of the attack, but unless the Govt actually committed the event in order to achieve those goals, you can't truly call it a Reichstag event.
For the record, I do not believe Trump will create a Reichstag event. However I am sure that we will be attacked by terrorists, in a huge 9-11 type attack, before the end of the year. Not that Trump is above that, I just think the actual terrorists will beat him to it. Both, as far as Americans care concerned, will have the same effect on laws, hate etc...

(4,858 posts)...24/7 coverage, House "hearings"...and even the mainstream media will shut down anyone who goes on TV and says it never happened. If enough right-wing scum say it happened, it happened. The "backlash" against the "liberal media" for mocking the Bowling Green Massacre will begin any day now. I'm about 50% serious in this argument...

Trump threw out the bait and the media and left have grabbed it and run with it. When Trump's "Reichstag Event" happens the left and the media will be thoroughly discredited and banished from any public discourse. It will be get in line or get outta here! (We saw this type of language used at his rallies). Trump has shown already he's willing to say anything he thinks is necessary to solidify his power. Why would he stop at only words?
