Last week I posted this:
Post from my daughter who spent the past few days preparing a house for this family of Syrian refugees.
On Sunday, a dining room was to be filled with a table for nine. On Monday, it was to be filled with the love, life, and hope of a Syrian family: a mother, a father, a grandmother, and six children. This family has waited years to reach the U.S. This family has endured hell and has undergone extreme vetting. This family would be reconnecting with a relative already resettled in here. This family sold all of their belongings in preparation for their flight out of Egypt. This family was only days from arriving. Days from a new and better life. Days from dignity.
And now, this family is shut out. Banned. Denied. Left waiting. Left stranded.
They will not board the plane. They will not reach the United States. They will not sit in this dining room and celebrate the beginning of their new lives.
And shame on us for letting this happen.
Update: The family is scheduled to arrive tomorrow afternoon. Wonderful news!

(18,868 posts)I haven't heard if they made it. Now one was sure what happened to them when they were turned away.

(18,868 posts)There was a house all ready for them to move into and furniture had been donated.
Nobody knew what happened to them but thought they probably were back at the refugees camp.
