Connie Britton steps up to help welcome Kurdish refugee family to Nashville

(Props also to Congressman Jim Cooper who worked hard to straighten out this situation after the Sharef family was initially sent back to Iraq upon arrival due to Trump's despicable Muslim ban)

conniebrittonTonight I'll be joining @mayormeganbarry at the airport to welcome the Sharefs, a Kurdish refugee family as they arrive in Nashville to begin their new life. The father, an interpreter with a US gov't organization, the mother, a kindergarten teacher, and their 3 children will be joining one of the largest Kurdish populations in the US right here in Nashville (who knew?!). They were turned away on their journey last week but will now finally arrive home. So we've been baking cookies and making welcome signs today, pre-Super Bowl! If you have any positive messages of welcome for the Sharefs, go ahead and leave them in the comments, and I will include them with our signs and notes! #yallmeansall

I realize it's a show about country music but it's also about acceptance. One of the stars is portraying a gay person who is dealing with a bigoted society. There are transgender characters along and many other issues dealt with in daily society. Callie Khouri, creator of Thelma and Louise, and Britton worked together to bring the show to television.

I've never met her, but it's good to hear that she is just as nice in person as her charity work would suggest!
