I'm hoping Julian Castro will challenge him. He needs to win a statewide office.

Trump won Texas with only 52%. 5% less than Romney. We are changing, but Cruz has a lot of money.

Ted Cruz. Insurance co profits have doubled under the ACA from $8 billion to $15 billion
(ok so right now we know not so good at math, but how bad can he get?)
155 million people have private care health insurance. Under the ACA 6.4 million enrolled. So 100 increase in profits is due to the less then 5% of people who are insured through the marketplaces?

First off, he totally blew his opening statement with his talk of all the Americans who are covered now who weren't before. That is NOT the way to frame the debate, because it plays into the idea that everyone who was happy with their employer-provided insurance are taking it on the chin to give insurance to the uninsured.

The correct opening statement should have been this:

"Let me open by addressing the vast number of Americans who were or are on employer -provided healthcare, before the ACA and after. What has the ACA meant to YOU? It has meant that your kids can stay on your insurance until they reach age 26. They won't need to go out and buy their own insurance policy at age 18. That has meant a YUGE savings for your family and for your children.

"It has meant that your employer-provided healthcare provider can no longer put a cap on how much they will spend on your care under your employer-provided insurance. In the past, they could do so, even if your employer was providing the insurance as part of your employment package.

"It has meant that your employer-provided health insurance company must spend 80% of the premium $ they collect on actual medical care and services. They can no longer give you substandard care while taking the money that you and your employer have paid to them in premiums, denying you care you have paid for and diverting your money to fund huge salaries and bonuses for insurance execs. If they do not spend 80%, they must by law refund the difference to your employer.

"It has meant that your employer-provided insurer must meet minimum standards of care for the premiums they charge. That means that you are no longer on a plan that costs you and your employer real money, only to go to your doctor and be told that your employer-provided insurance will not pay for basic care, like your yearly physical, flu shots, ob-gyn exams, cancer screenings and the like. They must now deliver such services, and they are not allowed to sell you a bait-and-switch policy that lines their pockets while giving you nothing in return.

"All of these guarantees to your employer-provided healthcare will GO AWAY if the Rs get their wish and repeal Obamacare. You will be the first people to lose, and to take a hit to your wallet if the Rs get their way. They are planning on taking away YOUR benefits and the benefits of millions of others. And, they have no plan in place to replace what they want to take away from you. They have had 6 years to come up with a plan, and they have offered nothing."

but he makes the mistake of leaning on his stump speech in debate situations. It hurt him in his debates with Hillary, and it didn't help tonight.

I don't know if it's a matter of him not being able to think on his feet, or just laziness.

I did not watch this debate.

Ted was not a cross-x debater but did some sort of parliamentary debate. That form of debate did not exist back when I was a college debater.

I do not think that ted is that good of debater.

Only missed the opening statements.

Like I said in another thread, Bernie showed the same passion. honesty, and empathy that I've always loved about him. Cruz came across as an oily politician. I think this is a worthwhile debate. Especially for people that still don't realize Obamacare and the Affordable Care Act are the same thing.
