Turtle MConnell said she ran afoul of him by impugning him. Shut up and sit down Lizzie. Reminds me so very much of Madison, WI.

I will not be silent about a nominee for AG who has made derogatory & racist comments that have no place in our justice system.
I will not be silent while the Republicans rubber stamp an AG who will never stand up to the @POTUS when he breaks the law.

(10,073 posts)if reading a letter about someone who was not then a senator is impugning that senator, so is voting against him now. So tomorrow we should expect to see about half the senate censored for voting against Sessions.

(1 post)Using the rule in this manner makes it impossible to say anything against another Senator who is being considered under "advise and consent." If this is permitted to be used, and Senator who is being confirmed cannot be critisized during debate on the issue of his/her confirmation. This was a first shot across the bow and if permitted to stand will become the norm permitting radical and unqualified Senators to be confirmed rather easily without any real substantive debate.
Like all of these ham handed moves, it can be used by the other side as well in the future. Of course Republicams will be outraged when the other side uses it.
